    Don't Trade Your Future for a Moment

    There are decisions you can make in a few minutes that will affect your life for years. A few minutes can damage a strong marriage, destroy trust that took decades to build, and cost you your kids, your reputation, and your walk with God. So why does the moment always feel so convincing? Pastor Steve closes out the week in Proverbs 6 with one of Solomon's most sobering warnings. He starts with a hungry man who steals food. We understand why he did it. But understanding the temptation doesn't remove the consequences. If he's caught, he still pays. Then Solomon turns to adultery, and his words get even stronger: the man who commits it lacks judgment and destroys himself. Because sexual temptation convinces a man to think only about right now. Who will know? What's the harm? I deserve this. It's just one time. Wisdom doesn't look at the moment. Wisdom looks way down the road. The enemy never shows you the price tag when temptation shows up. He just shows you the pleasure. God shows you the consequences, not because He's keeping something good from you, but because He's protecting everything good He's already given you. That's why a wise man builds boundaries before temptation ever arrives. He doesn't wait until he's emotionally involved, the texts have turned inappropriate, or the friendship has crossed the line. Strong men don't just resist temptation. Strong men build boundaries that keep temptation from getting close. Don't trade what you want most for what you want right now. Verse of the Day: Proverbs 6:30–33 Your Daily Man-Up Challenge  Take an honest look at your boundaries today. Is there a relationship, a conversation, a text thread, an online habit, or a situation you know is getting too close to the line? If there is, don't try to manage it. Delete the text or the picture.     Don't Outgrow Good Instruction

    Who has permission to tell you you're wrong? Not criticize you. Not tear you down. But look you in the eye and say, "You need to rethink that." If you can't name anyone, that's a problem. When we're young, we think our parents know everything. Then we get a little older and decide they know nothing, because now we know everything. And somewhere down the road, if we're wise, we realize there were things our father and mother were trying to teach us that we should have paid a lot more attention to. Solomon's word to his son is simple: don't forget what you were taught. Bind it on your heart. Because there will be a moment in a business meeting, in a conversation with your wife, or in a decision about your kids or your finances when that wisdom comes back to you right when you need it. Men love instruction. Tell us how to do it, and we'll do it. But we don't always like correction. Something in a man wants to say, "I've got this. Nobody needs to tell me how." Yet the most valuable voice in your life may be the one willing to say you're wrong. A foolish man gets offended by correction. A wise man gets better because of it. And the older and more successful you get, the easier it is to surround yourself with people who only agree with you. Don't. Keep people around you who love you enough to call you up. Verse of the Day: Proverbs 6:20–23  Your Daily Man-Up Challenge Ask yourself: Who has permission to correct me? If no one comes to mind, that's something to work on.     Watch What You Stir Up

    You don't have to throw a punch to start a fight. Sometimes all it takes is a comment, a joke, a sarcastic remark, or one message in the group text. And something that could have been handled by two people has now spread to five. Pastor Steve continues his exploration of Proverbs 6, where Solomon calls out a guy every man knows. The drama king. The one who always has a problem with somebody, is in a disagreement, and tries to pull other men into it with him. Solomon has one description for him: he stirs up dissension. And that's something every man has to guard against, because strong men don't create unnecessary division. Strong men bring peace. There's a big difference between confronting a problem and stirring one up. One is trying to bring resolution; the other just enjoys keeping the issue alive. And Solomon says this starts deeper than your words. It starts in the heart. So before you check your mouth, check your motive. Why am I telling this story? Why do I want this person to know what happened? Am I really trying to help, or am I just trying to get somebody on my side? Your words carry weight with your wife, your kids, your friends, and your coworkers. Don't be the guy who walks into a peaceful room and creates tension. Be the man who walks into tension and creates peace. Verse of the Day: Proverbs 6:12–15  Your Daily Man-Up Challenge  Pay attention to what you're stirring up with your words. Before you repeat something about another person, ask yourself: Does this need to be said, and am I the one who needs to say it? If there's a problem, go to the person involved instead of talking around them. And look for one opportunity today to shut gossip down. You can stop the division.     Get Up and Get After It

    Who has to motivate you? Your wife? Your boss? Your pastor on Sunday? A doctor who finally scares you into taking care of yourself? Solomon has a different idea. He says go look at the ant. In Proverbs 6, Solomon skips the great warriors and successful leaders and points to the smallest teacher imaginable. Nobody wakes an ant up in the morning. Nobody stands over it saying, "Come on, we've got work to do." It has no commander, no overseer, no ruler. It just gets up, sees the opportunity, and goes to work. That's a picture of self-discipline, and every man needs it. At some point, a man has to learn how to lead himself. The ant gathers in summer because it knows winter is coming. It does the work on the front side. You have seasons like that too: when you have your strength, your health, open doors, people around to help, time to build. Don't waste them. And notice Solomon's warning isn't about one giant failure. It's about "a little." A little sleep, a little slumber, one small delay added to another until years have passed. That's why poverty comes like a bandit. You don't see it coming. And it's not just money. You can become poor in your marriage, your health, your relationship with your kids, and your walk with God, simply by putting off the small things you knew you needed to do. Verse of the Day: Proverbs 6:6–11  Your Daily Man-Up Challenge  Identify one area of your life where you've been saying, "I'll get to it." Then get to it today. A call, a workout, your Bible, a responsibility, a project you've been meaning to start. Take the first step, and don't wait until you feel motivated.     Just Handle It

    Every man has made a decision he wishes he could take back. Said yes too fast. Spent money he shouldn't have. Gave his word and then thought, "I shouldn't have done that." The real question isn't whether you'll ever get yourself into something. It's what you do once you realize you have. Pastor Steve Alessi opens this week's study of Proverbs 6, where Solomon describes a man trapped by his own words. And notice what Solomon doesn't say. He doesn't say, "You messed up, and there's nothing you can do about it." He says get up and handle it. Go humble yourself. Allow no sleep to your eyes. Free yourself like a gazelle from the hunter. There are men carrying problems right now that could have been dealt with months or even years ago, but pride and procrastination keep whispering, "I'll deal with it later." One of the hardest things a man can do is admit "I was wrong." Pride wants to defend the decision, blame someone else, or pretend everything's fine. Wisdom says, "I made the decision, so I'll take responsibility for fixing it." A strong man isn't a man who never overcommits or makes a questionable choice. A strong man is the one who steps up and takes responsibility when he does. And he doesn't put it off. He does it today. Verse of the Day: Proverbs 6:1–5  Your Daily Man-Up Challenge Look in the mirror and ask one question: What have I been putting off that I already know needs to be handled? Whatever comes to mind, take one action today toward making it right. Make the call. Have the tough conversation. Admit the mistake. Correct the commitment.     Nothing Is Hidden

    "Nobody will know." Every man has told himself some version of that lie. And it only works for one reason: you've forgotten who's actually watching. Christian closes out Proverbs 5 with Solomon's final, sobering word to his son. Your ways are in full view of the Lord. Not some ways. Not just the public ones. Not just the ones you post. All of them. God's eyes reach into what no human eye can, which means your private life before God matters more than your public reputation before men. Character isn't what you do when others are watching. It's what you do when you're certain no one is. There's no compartment where God isn't watching, and that should sober any man living a double life. But for the man walking in the light, this same truth is a comfort, not a threat. If God sees everything, He also sees the faithfulness nobody noticed, the temptation you walked away from with no audience, the discipline you kept with no applause. Solomon isn't ending this chapter on fear. He's ending it on accountability, the kind that produces freedom. Freedom from the exhausting work of hiding. Freedom to be the same man in every room. Verse of the Day: Proverbs 5:21 Your Daily Man-Up Challenge: Ask yourself honestly: is there anything in my life right now that only works because I think no one's watching? Bring it to the light today. Tell a brother. Confess it to God. Take the step to end it. You have, and always will have, an audience of One. Start living like it.     Rejoice In Her

    Are you faithful to your wife, or do you actually delight in her? Because Solomon says there's a difference, and a lot of men have settled for the first while missing the second entirely. Christian reaches the turning point of Proverbs 5. After seventeen verses of warning, Solomon stops and blesses his son. May your fountain be blessed. May you rejoice. Not tolerate. Not endure. Not stay faithful through gritted teeth. Rejoice. Most men treat faithfulness like a fence, something that hems them in and limits them. Solomon treats it like a fountain, something meant to overflow with joy if you'd actually delight in what God gave you. Solomon isn't blessing a memory. He's blessing an ongoing choice. The woman you married isn't frozen on your wedding day, and neither are you. "The wife of your youth" is a call to keep rejoicing in the same covenant decade after decade, season after season. Biblical wisdom is aimed at a good life, not a shallow one, and there is no teaching in Proverbs about love that isn't aimed at deep, lasting joy inside the covenant God designed. A man who only defends his marriage but never delights in it is still missing what Solomon is after. Verse of the Day: Proverbs 5:18 Your Daily Man-Up Challenge Today, don't just avoid something for your marriage. Celebrate something in it. Do one thing that says "I rejoice in you," not just "I'm faithful to you." A note, a date, a real conversation, an honest compliment. Go out of your way.     Drink From Your Own Well

    Why does a man end up thirsty at someone else's well? It's rarely because temptation was too strong. More often, it's because he stopped tending his own. After two days of what to run from, Christian now examines what Solomon tells his son to run to: his own cistern, his own well. In the ancient world, a well wasn't a luxury. It was a man's survival, his provision, his protection, his portion. And a well split with the whole town runs dry for everybody. That's the picture of marriage Solomon paints: Not restriction, but provision. God didn't give you a wife to limit you. He gave her to you as a well that will never run dry if you tend it and never wander from it. But a well left unattended doesn't stay clean on its own. It has to be drawn from, maintained, and valued. A man who neglects his own well and then wonders why he's thirsty somewhere else isn't a victim of temptation. He's reaping his own neglect. You don't drift into faithfulness. You draw from your own well on purpose, every single day. Verse of the Day: Proverbs 5:15–16 Your Daily Man-Up Challenge Do one deliberate thing today to draw from your own well instead of neglecting it. Married?
