Qld ready if birdflu arrives, aid agencies in Venezuela seek shelters after earthquakes | ABC News Top Stories

Queensland biosecurity officials insist the state is fully prepared to deal with bird flu after the confirmed case across the border. Laboratory testing in New South Wales last night confirmed Australia's sixth case of the deadly H5 strain. The other detections have also involved migratory seabirds in Western Australia and South Australia. Chief veterinary officer Dr Fiona Thompson says authorities have already expanded local surveillance to monitor coastal regions. +++ Aid agencies in Venezuela say organising shelter for people left homeless from the twin earthquakes is a priority. It's now more than a week since the earthquakes struck the country, claiming the lives of nearly 3,000 people. The number of injured has been estimated at more than 12,000 and the UN estimates at least 50,000 people are now homeless. +++ Serious doubts have been raised over some of the charity work of an Australian influencer. Queensland born Lily Jay has close to 3 million followers on Instagram and creates energetic videos about her conversion to Islam. Last year she established the Lily Jay Foundation which takes in donations and claims to provide aid to places like Gaza, Sudan, Nepal and Uganda. ABC News Verify has discovered that a humanitarian award she posted about receiving was fake, and digital analysis has revealed some of the social media content relating to the foundation is AI generated or enhanced.
