RadioBypass Interview: Dave Rude (Tesla) | Homage and the Carnival of Sins Tour

Tesla guitarist Dave Rude joins RadioBypass to discuss the band’s new album, Homage, and the Return of the Carnival of Sins Tour with Mötley Crüe and Extreme. Homage finds Tesla putting their own unmistakable stamp on songs originally recorded by a remarkably diverse group of artists, including Sam Cooke, Queen, The Temptations, Bob Seger, Elvis Presley, Badfinger, James Brown, Supertramp, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Etta James and Hank Williams Sr. The album also includes the brand-new Tesla original “Never Alone” and a new 2026 version of “I Love You.” During our conversation, Dave discusses how the songs were chosen, how Tesla balanced respecting the original recordings with making each track their own, and how Homage compares with the band’s 2007 two-volume covers project, Real to Reel. That album was especially significant for Dave because it was his first recording project after joining Tesla in 2006. We also talk about the musical variety represented throughout Homage, and Tesla’s summer run on the Return of the Carnival of Sins Tour with Mötley Crüe and Extreme. At the end of the interview, Dave personally selects a song from Homage for us to play.
