Ep. - 1703 - SATURDAY SERIES: RICHARD ELLIOTT

Richard Elliott, a deputy manager in residential childcare in England, talks about his mother's childhood inside a Catholic convent and, later, a Catholic laundry in the north of England during the mid-twentieth century. Richard describes his mother's four years of separation from her family and her sisters as a child, her return home, an attack by a boyfriend at fifteen that led to her being sent away a second time, and two years of unpaid labor inside a Catholic laundry with no contact with her family. Richard also discusses discovering the full extent of his mother's story only recently, while interviewing her for a book they wrote together, and how his own work in residential childcare has changed the way he understands her. The conversation closes on Richard's petition calling on the UK government to open a public inquiry into the treatment of children in Catholic institutions in England.     Richard and his mother published their book under the pen name M. Duffy. It is titled In My Own Words: Memories of the Catholic Convents and is available on Amazon.        Reality Life with Kate Casey  Summer Reading List: https://katecasey.substack.com/p/books-i-cant-stop-talking-about-this  Vanity Fair Article: https://www.vanityfair.com/culture/story/martha-moxleys-diary  What to Watch List: https://katecasey.substack.com  Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/katecasey  Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/katecaseyca  Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@itskatecasey?lang=en  Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/113157919338245  Amazon List: https://www.amazon.com/shop/katecasey  Twitter: https://twitter.com/katecasey See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

    Introducing: The School of Greatness

Introducing Your Body Language Is Telling You You're Not Safe | Amy Cuddy from The School of Greatness. Follow the show: The School of Greatness Your body is talking to your brain constantly, telling it either 'I'm safe' or 'I'm not safe.' The posture you default to when no one's watching might be the thing keeping you stuck. Amy Cuddy, the social psychologist behind one of the most-watched TED Talks ever, sat down to unpack what actually builds confidence when the world feels unstable. She talks about the difference between faking it and becoming it, why imposter syndrome hits 75-85% of people, and why the bullies who came after her post-TED fame taught her more about personal power than the research ever did. You'll hear about the exact breathing pattern she uses before high-stakes moments, the simple writing exercise that beats any pep talk, and why she thinks reframing anxiety as excitement changes everything. There's also a story about a nurse named Alex Wubbels who got thrown against a wall for doing the right thing, and what that taught Amy about the kind of bravery that has no glory attached to it. This conversation will make you rethink every time you've shrunk yourself to avoid being noticed. Sit up straight, not for anyone else, but because you deserve the respect you keep giving away. Bullied: The Culture of Cruelty and the Surprising Power of Social Bravery Presence: Bringing Your Boldest Self to Your Biggest Challenges Amy’s website Amy on Instagram Amy on LinkedIn Amy’s TED Talk In this episode you will: Reclaim your sense of personal power using postural feedback and 4-7-8 breathing before high-stakes moments Rewrite the self-doubt that keeps you silent by practicing self-affirmation theory rooted in your core values Transform pre-performance anxiety into excitement using Alison Wood Brooks's reframing research Discover why bumblers earn more trust than pointers when things go wrong in public Overcome imposter syndrome by shifting focus from how you're judged to how you can serve others Draw the line between confidence and arrogance so self-belief fuels you instead of blinding you For more information go to https://lewishowes.com/1973 More SOG episodes we think you’ll love! Ep. - 1702 - THE MURDER OF THE KISSEL BROTHERS

The story of the Kissel brothers, two wealthy siblings murdered on opposite sides of the world within three years of each other. Robert Kissel, a Merrill Lynch executive in Hong Kong, was killed by his wife Nancy in November 2003 in a case that became known internationally as the Milkshake Murder. Less than three years later, his older brother Andrew, a Greenwich, Connecticut real estate developer facing federal fraud charges, was found stabbed to death in his own home. This episode covers both cases in full: the collapse of Robert and Nancy's marriage inside Hong Kong's expatriate finance world, Nancy's two trials and her conviction, overturned conviction, and second conviction, and the murder-for-hire investigation into who killed Andrew, including the eventual pleas, verdicts, and the question of who actually held the knife. The episode closes with where the case stands today and where to watch more, including Dateline NBC, 48 Hours Mystery, American Greed, and the 2008 Lifetime movie The Two Mr. Kissels starring John Stamos.        Reality Life with Kate Casey  Summer Reading List: https://katecasey.substack.com/p/books-i-cant-stop-talking-about-this  Vanity Fair Article: https://www.vanityfair.com/culture/story/martha-moxleys-diary  What to Watch List: https://katecasey.substack.com  Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/katecasey  Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/katecaseyca  Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@itskatecasey?lang=en  Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/113157919338245  Amazon List: https://www.amazon.com/shop/katecasey  Twitter: https://twitter.com/katecasey See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep. - 1701 - UNTOLD: THE TESTIMONY OF VINCE YOUNG

John Henion, director of Netflix's new documentary Untold: The Testimony of Vince Young, joins the show to unpack the rise and fall of the Texas Longhorns legend, from his childhood in Houston's Hiram Clarke neighborhood, raised by his mother and grandmother while his father was in and out of prison, through his legendary run at Texas under Mack Brown, and into the conflict-riddled NFL career that followed. On January 4th, 2006, Vince Young delivered what's still argued to be the greatest individual performance in college football history, 467 total yards and a game-winning touchdown with 19 seconds left, beating USC to give Texas its first national title in 35 years, and the Rose Bowl made him a legend. What came after became a cautionary tale: a bruising relationship with the Tennessee Titans, a leaked Wonderlic score that followed him for years, a very public mental health scare, and a $26 million bankruptcy. The film culminates in how Vince has worked to become the present, hands-on father he never had.        Reality Life with Kate Casey  Summer Reading List: https://katecasey.substack.com/p/books-i-cant-stop-talking-about-this  Vanity Fair Article: https://www.vanityfair.com/culture/story/martha-moxleys-diary  What to Watch List: https://katecasey.substack.com  Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/katecasey  Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/katecaseyca  Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@itskatecasey?lang=en  Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/113157919338245  Amazon List: https://www.amazon.com/shop/katecasey  Twitter: https://twitter.com/katecasey See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep. - 1700 - LOVE IS BLIND: UK

Chris DeRosa joins Kate to discuss season 3 of Love Is Blind: UK on Netflix. They break down this exceptionally attractive cast, the hilariously dramatic music, the differences between the UK and American versions, and the couples heading toward the weddings. They discuss Ciara’s expensive expectations and habit of stirring the pot, Jack and Faye’s chances of making it down the aisle, Ryan’s mysterious career and the Reddit rabbit hole surrounding his work, why Yasmin deserves the world, and whether Sophie and Taylor could become one of the franchise’s most successful couples. Chris and Kate make their wedding predictions, pick the cast members most likely to cause chaos at the reunion, and explain why this season’s biggest problem may be that the British cast is simply too polite.        Reality Life with Kate Casey  Summer Reading List: https://katecasey.substack.com/p/books-i-cant-stop-talking-about-this  Vanity Fair Article: https://www.vanityfair.com/culture/story/martha-moxleys-diary  What to Watch List: https://katecasey.substack.com  Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/katecasey  Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/katecaseyca  Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@itskatecasey?lang=en  Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/113157919338245  Amazon List: https://www.amazon.com/shop/katecasey  Twitter: https://twitter.com/katecasey See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
