The JRPG Backtrack is an excelent podcast if youre a fan JRPG's or owned a console in your early days (or not so early days) of gaming, you will find that the cast has a true love for such series as: Fire Emblem, Suikoden, Final Fantasy I, II, IV, V, IV (Squenix in general), Persona, etc..
The cast is varied and knowledgable and will often spice up the podcast with experiences of their own or go into a complete rant about that game you always wanted to play but just couldnt remember the exact name of, this podcast will give you the reason you have been looking for to unearth that aging (insert console name here) and try to finally catch up to its library.
If youre a Western-RPG fan or a CRPG like me, however, well, youre in for some pain, as mentioned the cast loves their JRPG's, not so much their western-rpgs... you will find that while the cast has experience in the genre it is not nearly a fraction of their experience with their eastern cousins, you will find that the number of episodes involving this type of RPGs is only a handful and while the cast has promised to make 1 western-rpg episode for every 3 JRPG's the number of podcasts dedicated to JRPG's is simply overwhelming and while most are pretty good ones (Madden to Oblivion, Ultimate Power, Witch Hunt), some end up being pretty lame (Double DnD Dose), it is doubly worse for CRPG fans, the cast memebers that are self-proclaimed PC Gamers have a very limited (albeit good) library of CRPG's played, and seem all too fond to let their female counterparts (very knowledgable, but mostly interested in JRPG's like FFXI or Suikoden, Harvest Moon, Persona) take the spotlight during banters which sadly end up ignoring the venerable genre altoghether, sometimes for pretty much the rest of the episode.
Worse the cast as a whole seems to have no awareness that modding comunities exist not mentioning pretty big ones if unlucky or just passingly mentioning but not referencing where can they be found or which projects are worthwhile when lucky.
Again all complaints would only apply if your memories of early RPGs are of defeating Firkraag in BG2 or beating Fallout 2 without ever killing someone, if your memories and tastes are more akin to defeating Lavos and ending up with a toad princess in Chrno Trigger or killing God for the umptenth time in FF then this is naturally the podcast for you.
