    University of Illinois Head Coach: Jeana Kempe

    In this episode, Joao and I sit down with Jeana Kempe, Head Coach of Illinois Women’s Swimming & Diving, to talk about the growth of the Fighting Illini program since she took over in 2022. In just three seasons, Illinois has surged forward — highlighted by 17 school records in 2024-25, 72 top-10 marks, multiple NCAA B Cuts, relay records, and continued progress at the Big Ten Championships. From record-breaking performances to immediate freshman impact, Coach Kempe has quickly elevated the standard in Champaign. Before Illinois, she coached at South Carolina, Auburn, LSU, and Northern Arizona, helping develop All-Americans, SEC champions, and NCAA qualifiers. Her perspective is also shaped by her own elite career as a five-time Illinois state champion, U.S. National Junior Team member, Olympic Trials qualifier, and UCLA team captain. What stands out most in this conversation is how genuine Coach Kempe is. Her vision for sustained growth at Illinois — built on culture, development, and belief — is clear throughout.

    Olympian & World Champion Milorad Čavić: World-Class Swimmer, World-Class Clinician

    In this episode, we sit down with Milorad “Milo” (me-low) Čavić, Olympic silver medalist, former world champion, and 3x world record holder. Born in California with Serbian heritage, Milo competed at the very highest level of the sport, racing in 4 Olympic Games, 5 World Championships, 9 European Championships, as well as U.S. National Championships and NCAA Championships. His career places him among the most accomplished swimmers of his generation. Following his competitive career, Milo has dedicated himself to giving back to the swim community through his business, Swim with Milo. Through clinics with world-class swimmers and coaches, private lessons, and virtual coaching, Milo shares the knowledge, experience, and mindset he developed at the elite level.     Swim Smart Co-Founder: Karl Hamouche

    In this episode, we went live for a conversation with Karl Hamouche, co-founder of Swim Smart and co-inventor of the Squeezline. Karl moved from Lebanon to Iowa at age 12, found his place through swimming, and later returned as a coach to help grow the same team — launching a satellite program and helping them win their first club state title.With a background in biology, exercise science, and medicine, Karl lives at the intersection of science and real-world swimming. He still swims almost every day, competes regularly, and uses his time in the water to develop smarter ways to help swimmers improve. We’ll talk coaching, innovation, and what swimming smart means to Karl.

    Georgia Tech Swim Coach: Iago Moussalem

    In this episode of the Get Out Swim Podcast, we sit down with Iago Moussalem, Swim Training & Recruiting Coordinator at Georgia Tech Swimming & Diving and former Brazilian National Team swimmer. Iago competed collegiately at Miami (Ohio) University and Indiana University, where he raced at the highest level of NCAA swimming. He also represented Brazil internationally at the World University Games and the Pan Pacific Championships. Now coaching at a high level, Iago brings experience from his work at Georgia Tech, Metro Atlanta Aquatic Club, and his own venture, Fortius Swim, which provides elite-level virtual training to swimmers worldwide. He has also contributed to the sport through roles with organizations such as Fitter & Faster. We also dive into his leadership style, his belief in leading from the heart, and the importance he places on genuinely caring for his athletes, both in and out of the pool.     Raleigh Swim Association Coaches: Ethan Cooke & Ronnie Vaughan

    In this episode, we sit down with Coach Ethan and Coach Ronnie, two key leaders at RSA who bring years of high-level coaching experience and a shared foundation to the program. Coach Ethan leads RSA’s Senior Gold group and works with the Dolphin group, drawing from his experience coaching at the collegiate level, USA Swimming clubs, and alongside professional and NCAA athletes. Coach Ronnie serves as RSA’s Head Age Group Coach, leading the PreSenior and Wahoo groups, with a strong background in athlete development, program leadership, and USA Swimming education. Before RSA, Ethan and Ronnie crossed paths in Connecticut, where they co-founded a USA Swimming club. From there, their coaching journeys took different paths—Ethan moving on to collegiate and elite-level coaching, and Ronnie continuing to build athletes and programs at the club, high school, and LSC levels.     Expert Swim Coach & Trainer: Dan Daly

    In this episode, I’m joined by Dan Daly, CSCS, swim coach, performance trainer, and founder of Train Daly. Dan brings a rare blend of elite swimming experience and strength & conditioning expertise. A former high school All-American, Division I scholarship athlete, Division II All-American, and national finalist, Dan has spent over 35 years in the sport as a swimmer and more than 20 years coaching athletes across levels. He continues to compete as a masters and open-water swimmer while helping athletes train smarter through dryland strength and conditioning. We talk about Dan’s transition from athlete to coach and why dryland training plays such a critical role in improving swim technique, strength, and speed. He shares how his background in kinesiology and nutrition shapes his coaching approach, common mistakes swimmers make in the gym, and how training should differ for sprinters, distance swimmers, and endurance athletes. We also discuss Dan’s work with remote coaching, how he programs dryland training for his athletes, and what swimmers can realistically improve even without in-person access. Dan works with athletes of all abilities — from world-class competitors and collegiate hopefuls to adult swimmers — and explains how well-designed training environments support long-term improvement.     National Head Coach for Malaysian Swimming: Eric Anderson

    In this episode, I’m joined by Eric Anderson, Head Coach of the Malaysian National Swimming Team and co-founder of MAKO Swim. Eric brings a truly global perspective to coaching. Before leading Malaysia’s national program, he’s coached at high levels in multiple countries, including Canada and Denmark, working with elite swimmers and gaining insight into how different systems approach performance, athlete development, and team culture. We talk about what he’s learned from coaching internationally — what transfers, what doesn’t, and how those experiences shape the way he builds training environments today. We also break down the Malaysian national team setup.
