Patrick Tiernan: War risk is being rewritten

“As there is more drone warfare, more artificial intelligence in the decision making, we’re going to have to completely reimagine how we cover [war]” Business presenter Felicity Hannah speaks to Patrick Tiernan, who runs the 337-year-old insurance marketplace, Lloyds of London. He says that autonomous weapons and AI-driven decision-making could change how conflict risk is calculated and insured, because traditional assumptions about how wars escalate may no longer hold. He says the current risk environment is unlike anything in his company’s long history, and that a major state-backed cyber-attack remains one of their realistic disaster scenarios. Retirada dos EUA da Europa “está em curso” e pode “criar vazios na capacidade de dissuasão da NATO”

O programa desta semana do podcast Diplomatas, do PÚBLICO e do Instituto Português de Relações Internacionais (IPRI-Nova), foi dedicado à 39.ª cimeira de chefes de Estado e de Governo da NATO, que decorreu na terça e na quarta-feira em Ancara, na Turquia. Carlos Gaspar e Patrícia Daehnhardt elencaram os objectivos estratégicos dos diferentes aliados numa cimeira muito focada nos planos de investimento dos países europeus em defesa e em armamento, mas ofuscada, em parte, pela revelação de Donald Trump, Presidente dos Estados Unidos, de que o cessar-fogo com o Irão “está morto”. Os investigadores do IPRI-Nova reflectiram ainda sobre o papel da Ucrânia enquanto fornecedor e beneficiário da segurança da Aliança Atlântica e o estatuto da Turquia de actor regional com interesses geopolíticos bem definidos no Médio Oriente e na sua vizinhança. A parte final do episódio foi dedicada à análise dos efeitos políticos da decisão da justiça francesa sobre o caso de desvio de fundos de Marine Le Pen e a subsequente decisão da líder da extrema-direita francesa em apresentar-se como candidata às eleições presidenciais de 2027. Jacob Zuma’s daughters: Polygamy is a subject we lived
