    The Metal Forge - 366 - Scorched Earth

    Scorched Earth is a groovy & thrashy death metal band from Indianapolis, for fans of '90s Sepultura and later-era Slayer. It was resurrected from the ashes of Indy groove/thrash metal band Panzer by drummer Alex McCracken and guitarist Brandon Signorino; you may recognize Brandon from Indy power-doom band Lavaborne. The band also features bassist Sara Swick and guitarist Andy Hassing, both of whom play in Indy traditional metal band Cursed Blade. The lineup is rounded out by powerhouse vocalist Mickey Marsh Davis, whose debut with the band was on Demolition, a demo released in November 2024.     The Metal Forge - 365 - Spell

    North of the US border lies some amazing bands, this week I am venturing back to Vancouver, BC to check on Spell and see what magic is brewing. Cam gets down on the anvil with us this week and we are talking about some new music coming along with a Hell's Heroes stop in March and even more. Cam was the first international guest on The Metal Forge back in 2020. They had been on my radar for a year or so at the time of appearing. That was the release of "Opulent Decay" and was still in just the audio episodes as the video wasn't a thing and I was still meticulously editing. Speed the clock up a couple years and after adding some cohorts to The Metal Forge cast of characters for spooky season of 2022, Cam made another appearance this time promoting "Tragic Magic".     The Metal Forge - 363 - Helms Deep

    Helms Deep, a band forged in the fires of 2017 by the guitar-slinging, vocal-cord-abusing Alex Sciortino, had a vision: to resurrect the raw, untamed spirit of 1980s speed/power metal. Think Riot, Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest, but with a twist of prog and fusion thrown in for good measure. Sciortino's songwriting draws from a vast well of inspiration, from the iconic metal bands of the '80s to the labyrinthine sounds of '70s rock, fusion, and prog. This project was brewing for about five years before Sciortino joined forces with the thunderous drumming of Mike Heller (Raven, Malignancy, ex-Fear Factory) and the earth-shaking bass of John Gallagher (Raven). Together, they crafted Helms Deep's debut album, Treacherous Ways. The album quickly caught the ear of Nameless Grave Records, who signed the band for an official release in 2023. And now, hot on the heels of their 2025 release, "Chasing the Dragon," Helms Deep is ready to unleash their sonic fury once more!
