Episode 293 - Flame Con and Anime NYC 2026 Convention Reviews

Ian and Kris are done with a whirlwind two weekends straight of conventions, and they have a lot to say about it! First up, this year's Flame Con, held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square, a new venue for the event. They discuss how the new space compares to previous locations, the show floor, innovative cosplay, free beauty products, the feel of the con compared to other comic conventions, and of course, panels attended. This includes a full slate of panels run by The Graymalkin Lane Podcast, including their Mutant Fashion Review, and a sit-down with Gregory Wright and Terry Kavanagh on queer characters at Marvel in the 80s and 90s. They then discuss Anime NYC 2026 in full, including this year's Netflix showcase of upcoming anime series, GKIDS distributing Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust to theaters in the US, the growing disdain towards Crunchyroll and their diminishing presence at the con, how to attempt to read subtitles in a crowded room, managing industry presence at the end of a con season, awkward placement of 18+ exhibitors, where the heck Artist Alley should be in Javits, Kris' return to running panels, attending an anime Masquerade for the first time in years, the ongoing saga of where to pee in Javits, and so much more! Episode 289 - ...Pause For Truck...

It makes a strange amount of sense that the episode after the 20th anniversary blowout is something much more laid back and simple. Ian happened to be down in the land of Brent, aka Florida, so the two of them settled up at a table to record live and in person! They discuss the trouble it took for Ian to get down there in the first place, then move into some Disney World talk, X-Men '97 Season Two and how Brent still hasn't read a lot of the material being used in it, Ian's thoughts on live-action Moana, anticipation of the third Dune movie, some further 20th anniversary thoughts, Wonder Man Emmy nods, Marvel's inability to hold an artist for more than a few issues, Brent's anticipation of his Absolute Crisis on Infinite Earths, some trucks and SUVs, SVU, and more! Episode 287: Two At Start, Four At Finish

You get a little bit of everything this episode, all the way down to who is on it! Ian and Brent start out old school as a duo, touching on the trailer for the new Batman: Knightfall animated movie and how the 90s keeps on coming back as strong as ever. They then switch over to the ever-increasing cost of conventions right as Brandon joins in on the conversation, My Adventures with Superman Season Three and need for a "Previously,on...", and then go into how the heck Marvel can continue to have Magneto be a Holocaust survivor in the year 2026 and beyond, and some discussion on the size of Omnibuses (and this one kid who will soon steal all our podcasting jobs). Finally, Kris joins us for her spoiler-free thoughts on the new Supergirl movie, which we will give our full spoiler-filled review on our next episode, which also is our 20th Anniversary Live Zoom, which will take place on July 1st at 7:30pm ET (doors open at 7pm ET)! We then end with some recent reads, including Ian finally tackling Batman: Dark Patterns and Ice Cream Man, Brandon going through Dungeon Crawler Carl, Kris returns to Powers (both the comic AND the show), Brent tells off to get off his lawn about audiobooks versus books, somehow we mention smut, and more! And earmuffs, it's a Blue Team episode so there be cussin'.
