    43. Severely bullied, anorexia, depression and now a chronic illness that has forced her out the UK to seek out the perfect climate that will ensure Rachael avoids another round of hospitalisation

    At the age of just 14, Rachael suffered with a severe panic attack after a bullying incident that resulted in hypoxia, which then turned into anorexia. This was the start of the spiraling decline in Rachael's physical and mental health. She had reached out for help at 16 but was refused as her BMI wasn't identified as reading low enough... 20 years later, Rachael now lives in a bubble in Gran Canaria after being told that the only remedy to one of her chronic illnesses was a warmer climate. This is a story of pain, of not belonging and of being failed by her very own country when she needed them the most. Rachael has since written two books and advocates for people with mental health issues and chronic illnesses. And against all odds, she was told that she would be in a wheelchair by the age of 30, she's now 34, wait until you hear what her f*ck yes moment is right now.     Over this past week, I've been running a free activation in my free telegram community to really get to know all the different versions of ourselves. The parts of us that want things and the parts of us that don't. Who we show up as when we go about our days, which sides of us different people, different experiences bring out of us. We started to understand when our nay-saying voice is the loudest and what triggers it and what we could do instead.     After years of people pleasing, manipulation and control in her working environment, which naturally spread into personal relationships, Angie knew something had to give. From the age of 13, Angie was working. She worked for a large fish and chip shop, crazy hours. Her Manager would even call her up when she was at school and ask her to come to work because he was short staffed. She always went. The crazy hours led to late night socialising which led to extreme tiredness also led to self sabotaging behaviours, for years she thought this was normal behaviour. Her mum was always a grafter and so she thought this is just what we have to do. This resulted in 25 years of anxiety and depression. In this episode, Angie shares what she has done along her road to recovery and how she now helps other women go from exhausted to empowered.     Dulce Alvarez had a dream to get her daughter into a top school which meant preparing her for the her 11 plus exams. However, after outsourcing the teaching to a tutor, this quickly became evident that it wasn't going to get their daughter the results she needed, so she took the job on herself. But Dulce was already working 12 hour shifts in her high paced career in the financial services and realised that she couldn't have it all when her health started to suffer because of it. She was sacrificing a lot to help her daughter. As a non native English speaker vocabulary was the primary challenge .This lack of native-speaker advantage resulted in gaps in their child's vocabulary, which was highlighted by the tutors, such as not knowing the word "toboggan". This is a real story of how Dulce turned a real pain into her passion. After sacrificing so much to help her daughter, she spotted a huge gap in the market and created her business Lexilume to prevent others ever going through what she had to endure just to give her daughter the best start.     Throughout this very rich and insightful conversation Penelope mentions that she isn't 'at all techy' so if the idea of AI bores you then this conversation is for you. Penelope has a way of making it so simple to understand, so useful and actually really interesting. Her ex employer from years before told her that with no amount of training she would grasp excel and so she avoided it from then on. This nearly made her avoid a coding class because she had this internal belief that she wasn't clever enough to 'get it' but she turned up anyway and it changed everything. Penelope has had a very interesting life wearing many different hats from the various different job rolls for various types of employers over the years. And she thinks that her inability to stay in a roll for more than 2 years at a time is possibly due to her having autism, ADHD, and dyspraxia but also the very reason as to why she can easily visualise the structure behind AI, seeing patterns, breaking things down and reassembling them into a useable system - a very interesting and useful skill to have. We talk about everything from reading Carrie Green's book She Means Business to her kids at bedtime when they were little and now how her eldest is away at uni still listening to it when she goes to bed. How she uses AI to decode her dreams and helps her daughter translate her uni lectures that are delivered in french to help her get the most from them whilst she picks up the language, to being looked down upon when she told a branding professional that if she used pink she wouldn't be taken seriously...
