    Episode 162 - Apple Stuff Discussion Find My Bartender

    It’s an all new That Real Blind Tech show with the entire gang back together to recap the Apple Glow Time event in a way that only That Real Blind Tech Show can do.   We kick the show off with an exciting upcoming trip by Ed, and as we stumble through our intro Jeanine fills us in on how Aira Audio Described the debate. We then discuss the breaking news right before we recorded of Jon Bon Jovi talking a jumper off of a bridge.   Next we discuss the story of Gen-Z pissing everyone off with their new fad of filming their airport tray’s.       Brian then tells us all about this year’s 17th annual Laugh For Sight NYC at Gotham Comedy Club on Monday, October 28, 2024. We start off discussing if screen real estate makes a difference for gesture and braille with a lower case b input users. It was only quickly mentioned but could apple Visual Intelligence LookUp only available on the iPhone 16 Pro and up cause a lot of blind people to get new phones? We then discuss the new camera button coming to some of the phones. During the event apple kept pimping out the bigger battery life, so how much bigger is it? Here are the biggest differences between the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro.   Apple announced a new Mag Safe charger, don’t buy it. Apple finally killed the lightning  cable for all new products.   Apple announced the air Pod 4’s, making the Air Pod product line very confusing. The Air Pod Pro 2’s will be able to replace hearing aids for people with low to moderate hearing loss. Will Air Pods doubling as hearing aids challenge new social norms?   We got the Apple Watch Series 10, and one of us already ordered one. Sleep Apnea detection comes to the new watches.   We got a drop date for iOS 18 on Monday, September 16th, and fortunately Allison and Jeanine have been running the betas. Additionally, Mac OS Sequoia will also be dropping on Monday, but none of us have been beta testing it.     Episode 161 - Doxing Season, Are You Ready For Some football

    It’s an all new That Real Blind Tech Show, The Boys style as Brian and Ed are joined by David Goldstein and Nick D’Ambrosio to discuss the fun of playing fantasy football, and offer some helpful hints to those people who have never played fantasy football before and are thinking about playing this upcoming season. We reflect a little on the All Blind Fantasy Football League Mini Documentary.   We talk about yahoo Fantasy and their fantastic accessibility on iOS and Android.   We then let Nick stick around as we discuss an article about cyber hacking and the all time greatest mispronunciation of a specific word that you will have to hear for your own to actually believe!   Is Cable TV road Kill and on the way out?   Will the U.S. government look to break up Google and what would it mean for the consumer? And is Apple next on the Justice Department’s list? We then briefly discuss Pixel phones.   We then continue our conversation from our last episode about Apple Intelligence being more of a concept then a reality. The iPhone 16 is rumored to be getting a new button, why apple, why? Mac OS Sequoia will require regular permission checks when using certain apps.     Episode 160 - Dibs On Real AppleVis.com

    It’s an all new That Real Blind Tech Show. The entire gang of Allison, Brian, Ed, and Jeanine are back together for the first time in awhile.   We start with a brief conversation about Sell and Venmo. Which then leads us in to the first ever death segment of That Real Blind Tech show, as we discuss the demise of AppleVis. You can read David Goodwin’s article about shutting AppleVis down here at least until August 31st. And as soon as the paint dried on the news of AppleVis shutting down, Orcam while not publicly, but it has been announced that Orcam will halt development of visual aides.   Switching from dying products to new products, would you wear an always listening A.I. pendent?   We then discuss Google pulling their Gemini A.I. ad from the Olympics after the backlash it received.   In our favorite story for this episode, Epic’s Tim Sweeney is blasting Apple’s Find My for actually tracking the thief who stole his MacBook. Say what!   Logitech wants to sell you one more mouse for the rest of your life, but they also want you to pay a subscription for it! What, again!   Siri supposedly seems to get better in iOS 18.1, but does it really? Allison has been running iOS 18.1 and gives us her opinions of how things are running so far. We then discuss everything Apple Intelligence can and can’t do in iOS 18.1. It ends up iOS 18 could be the safest way to use ChatGPT. And will this whole partnership with ChatGPT blow up in Apple’s privacy face? We then talk about the new feature coming to iOS 18 called reduced interruptions for notifications. And would you like to unlock your iPhone with your heartbeat? Apple once thought of it.   So the whole CrowdStrike thing happened in between us recording, and now we have all heard of CrowdStrike. Delta’s CEO question if this sort of crash could ever happen on the Mac?     Episode 159 - Meet the Cast of the All Blind Sitcom Don't Look Now

    It’s an all new That Real Blind Tech show. It’s an episode like none other as Brian sits down with a lot of the cast, and the Creator, Director, and writer of the all blind sitcom pilot, Don’t Look Now.   Joining us on this exclusive behind the scenes look at don’t Look Now is Rebecca S. Meadows The Co-Creator, Executive Producer  and she also plays Becca, Brian McCarthy who plays Drew, Michael Gallant who plays CJ, Jamie Jung the Casting Director and he also plays Billy, Olga Itsenko who plays Olga, and the Creator, Director, and writer Geno Marks. We get to know a little bit about the cast members and then find out how Don’t Look Now went from its early conception to the filmed pilot episode.   We find out a little bit about everyone’s first impressions with Don’t Look Now, and then Jamie gives us a peek behind the scenes at the casting process.   We then get everyone’s thoughts on what first drew them to Don’t Look Now.   Michael then tells us how he prepared to play someone who is totally blind.   Brian McCarthy takes us behind his process to playing Drew and Olga lets us know what her experience was like as a first time actress.   Which then leads to the cast discussing how comfortable everyone felt on set and around each other.     Episode 158 - 2024 ACB and NFB Recap and Resolution Discussion

    It’s an all new That Real Blind Tech Show. Brian, David, and Jeanine get together to recap the ACB and NFB Conferences.   We started recording minutes after reports started that Trump had been shot, and not knowing if it was fake news, we had to go with the information we had at the time of recording. Which leads us in to some of the news that came out about Aira during the conferences.    We then start off discussing the report that Air BnB fails to protect its guests against spying cameras. Which then leads us to discussing if we ever get freaked out that someone is filming us.   Just in time for Prime Day, Amazon’s A.I. Shopping Assistant is rolling out to everyone in the U.S.   We then dive in to Conference season as David explains to us what happens all day at the NFB Conference. David then fills us in about the exhibit hall at the conference. David then fills us in how the resolution voting process works. We then discuss the nightlife at the conference. We then discuss the Saturday night screening of the blind sitcom Don’t Look Now which screened at the Regal Cinema in Orlando. According to a recent survey more authentic disability is wanted in film and T.V.   We then move to discuss some of the latest Aira announcements and some of the fake news that was spreading around at the conferences.   Jeanine then fills us in on her experiences at the ACB Conference in Jacksonville. Jeanine tells us about her experience demoing the Guidance Mobility device. Jeanine then tells us about the other items she got to check out at the conference.   After reviewing our conference experiences we decided to go ahead and recap this year’s NFB Resolutions.     Episode 157 - In Space No One Can Hear You Poop

    It’s an all new That Real Blind Tech Show. Allison, Brian, Jeanine, and David Goldstein pinch hitting for Ed get together to talk some tech and other nonsense. It is a long one, but well worth the listen, as we cover a lot of interesting topics and some insanity occurs along the way.   We start off discussing the latest update to Twitter which has reportedly on iOS broke a lot of accessibility, but the good news is Spring for Twitter still works on both iOS and Mac.   Brian then discusses the CVPR conference he just spoke at in Seattle. The conference is all about computer vision and A.I.Next Brian discusses his jaunt off to L.A.    We then discuss the recent article that pooping on the Moon is a messy business. You got to love articles like these! On a brilliant Segway, it ends up Perplexity is a bullshit machine!   No surprise that a research study has proven that when it comes to hiring people with disabilities ChatGPT has been proven to be ableist. Which then leads us to discussing the blind American adult unemployment rate.   An A.I. Al Michaels will bring you daily personalized Olympic updates on Peacock.   Yelp of all places is adding more ways to search for businesses and accessibility.   Would you pay an extra five to ten bucks a month for a smarter Alexa?   We then discuss fun with google sheets. Soon in Google Chrome Mobile you will be able to call restaurants, get reviews and perform other tasks from the address bar. We then discuss what our go to browsers are on both desktop and mobile. It is rumored that you will eventually be able to make Gemini sound like your favorite YouTuber.   We then dive in to the upcoming NFB and ACB conferences. Jeanine will be attending ACB, while Brian and Vice-President David will be at the NFB Conference in Orlando.   While it is early in the iOS 18 beta cycle, we are hearing that currently iPhone Mirroring is completely inaccessible. Despite reports, no, apple and Meta are not considering an A.I. partnership.     Episode 156 - A Conversation with PiccyBot Creator Martijn Van Der Spek

    It’s an all new That Real Blind Tech Show. Brian and Jeanine sit down with Martijn Van Der Spek to discuss his new app PiccyBot. You can download the iOS version of the app here.   Martijn tells us all about what PiccyBot is and does. The app is specifically designed for the blindness community. Some of you may remember the app Talkin Goggles that Martijn created back in 2012/13. We find out the meaning behind the name PiccyBot.   We find out how the blindness community came to discover the app and how it has been received so far. We then find out how iOS 18 could affect PiccyBot.   We then get a demo of Jeanine using PiccyBot and dispel the long time rumor that her husband Kent does not exist! We still have some hesitation to believing he is real!   Martijn then tells us what he would like to bring to the app in future versions of PiccyBot.     Episode 155 - WWDC 24 Recap: Smooth As A Babies Bottom

    It’s an all new That Real Blind Tech show where our show notes are written and not corrected by any A.I. Allison, Brian, and Jeanine get together to recap and give our thoughts on all the big announcements from WWDC 24.   We start off with a story about a phone booth, yes, a phone booth.   Elon Musk has gotten a remote tribe in the Amazon connected to the internet, and you would never guess what has happened!   We then discuss the pilot for a new sitcom called Don’t Look Now. This sitcom is all about the blind starring the blind, and produced by some of the blind. There will be a very private screening of the sitcom in Orlando, Florida on Saturday, July 6, 2024. If you would like to be invited to the VIP very important people, not visually impaired people please email us at ThatRealBlindTechshow@gmail.com and we will work on getting you an invite to attend the premier event.   We then discuss the XR Access Conference that Brian just attended out on Roosevelt Island in New York City. This then leads us in to a conversation about the Meta Ray Ban Glasses.   We then dive in to our recap of this year’s WWDC. We start off discussing the newly announced Apple Intelligence. And after years of false promises will Siri finally get smarter? We discuss some of the things the new Siri will supposedly be able to do. And here is how Siri will work with ChatGPT in iOS 18. And there are a bunch of new writing tools that will be powered by A.I. We then discuss all the new A.I. features coming to mail.     The iPhone, iPad, and Mac will be getting a new Password Manager application. The app will also work on your Window devices.   In iOS 18 and iPad 18 customizing your Home Screen will be a lot easier. And thankfully the global issue of iOS not supporting RCS messaging will be over. Control Center will become a lot more useful. Image Playground is another new app coming to iPhones and Macs. And there is a massive redesign coming to the Photos app.   We then discuss all the new features coming to the iPad which are pretty much the same as the iPhone except you also get a calculator.   Tap to send cash will be a new feature in iOS 18.   Live phone recordings is a new feature that won’t end in spectacular disaster.   iOS 18 will now alert you when you are using a slow charger, but there is a catch.   We then discuss all the new features coming to Mac OS Sequoia. iPhone Mirroring is coming to the Mac, but will it be accessible? Safari is also getting a massive revamp with a ton of A.I. features.   Non-verbal gestures are coming to Air Pods near you.   There are a lot of new health and fitness features coming to the Apple Watch along with Live Activities.
