In August of 1619, a ship carrying more than 20 enslaved Africans arrived in the English colony of Virginia. America was not yet America, but this was the moment it began. No aspect of the country that would be formed here has been untouched by the 250 years of slavery that followed. On the 400th anniversary of this fateful moment, it is time to tell the story.

Interessante en belangrijke podcast. Hoeveel effecten er nu nog zijn van de slavernij, maakt diepe indruk op me. Ook vind ik het belangrijk om de historie te kennen. Ik werd geraakt door de verhalen, met een lach en een traan.
Breathtaking, heartbreaking
An education that we all should have had growing up, that so few of us did. So instead I’m learning the details of American history in my thirties because our education systems fail us. Thank you Nikole Hannah-Jones for your dedication, your brilliance and your patience in telling this story. I’m sorry so many of us are so late.
