Zlatan’s Ajax Years (2/2)
It is 2001. Rafael van der Vaart has just broken through at Ajax. Co Adriaanse is the coach and Leo Beenhakker is responsible for the technical side of things. In that summer, Ajax also brought in some new players like: Maxwell, Mido and Hatem Trabelsi. And there was a young star from Sweden: Zlatan Ibrahimovic is his name.
In the first podcast, guest presenter Sam van Raalte and a few others who worked alongside the Swede focussed on the striker's arrival in Amsterdam and his first season in an Ajax shirt. In this (second) edition, the podcast starts in summer 2002.
Ajax Podcast - Zlatan’s Ajax Years (1/2)
It’s 2001. Rafael van der Vaart has just broken through at Ajax. Co Adriaanse is the coach and Leo Beenhakker is responsible for the technical side of things. In that summer, Ajax also brought in some new, relatively unknown players: Maxwell, Mido, Hatem Trabelsi. And there is a young star from Sweden: Zlatan Ibrahimovic is his name.
In this podcast, guest presenter Sam van Raalte covers the Swede’s first years in Amsterdam for Ajax. He speaks with Priscilla Janssen who helped guide new, young players as well as team manager David Endt and players like Maxwell and Nikos Machlas. This story is not a simple football fairy tale, but a reconstruction of the sometimes difficult path that Ibrahimovic had to walk to become the big star he is today.
Christian Poulsen and 'The Danish Ajax Romance'
Ajax's Danish players hold a prominent place in the club's history. There are plenty of examples of players from the Scandinavian country who found success in Amsterdam. More than enough reason for us to make a special Danish episode of the Ajax Podcast in the run up to the team's UEFA Champions League game with FC Midtjylland, and, as Eyong Enoh put it, to highlight the ‘Ajax Dansk Romance’.
1:16 - Guest introduction Christian Poulsen
3:25 - 90 Seconds with Christian
12:40 - Enoh and Christian about their competition
20:50 - Quiz about the relationship between Denmark and Ajax
27:00 - Analyising FC Midtjylland and the Champions League Group with Christian and Jonathan Beck
40:23 - Far Away Fan Viktor Fischer
Blind: 'This is what makes you want to play for Ajax'
Our guest for the third Ajax Podcast is Daley Blind. David the Host and his sidekick (and former teammate of Blind) Eyong Enoh talk to Daley about his breakthrough, social media and the exciting and beautiful period for Ajax that lies ahead.
Daley has signed a personalized Daley Blind Ajax Scarf which you listeners will have a chance to win. Take a picture of yourself while you are listening to the Ajax Podcast and make sure to add the hashtag #AjaxPodcast. Enoh will pick the funniest, most unique picture as the winner. So take a picture and put it on Instagram or Twitter with #AjaxPodcast.
Champions League Draw With Ronald de Boer: "We have shown we can beat top teams lately."
The second episode of the Ajax Podcast focuses on the UEFA Champions League group stage draw. On Thursday, our presenter David the Host together with co-host Eyong Enoh and former Ajax player Ronald de Boer looked at who Ajax was grouped with and then discussed our prospects against Liverpool, Atalanta and FC Midtjylland. We also asked for Football Commentator of Sky Sports and Eredivisie expert Jonathan Beck's opinion.
Dusan Tadic: "When the fans sing this song to me, it feels really great.”
After a number of months, the Ajax Podcast is back and entirely renewed. From this season onward, David the Host will take over the podcast with support from permanent co-host, Eyong Enoh. And we’re kicking off the new podcast season with a promising episode. This week we had none other than the skipper, Dusan Tadic, in the studio and we had a special surprise for him.
