Child Loss and Grief - A Conversation with Jude Smith

After the last Chip Chats episode with Ben Kweller and Rocky Votolato, I received a DM from Jude Smith. In 2021, Jude's 14-year-old daughter Nell had recorded an album of Nick Cave covers with the Flaming Lips. It's just an incredible album and put Nell on my radar. She was working on a follow-up album, her first album of original material, when, at the age of 17, her life was tragically cut short. Jude listened to the last episode because he knew Ben, who had recorded a song with the Flaming Lips called "Killer Bee" in memory of Nell, and told me how hard it was to listen to, but how helpful it had been. I invited Jude to join me to discuss Nell's life and the journey he's been on after losing her. As I mentioned in the episode with Ben and Rocky, I hope hearing this chat can help someone who may need some support. And I want to thank Jude for having a difficult conversation, I know I got something out of it. This is a public episode.
