Dawson's River Review is an episode-by-episode recap of the 90s/00s teen drama show, Dawson's Creek, by sisters Erin and Amy. One comes from having rewatched the show several times, while the other has never seen it. The hosts talk about what it was like to experience high school and college during the same years that the characters in the show did. Sometimes the conversation goes off the rails, and that's OK!

    The Te of Pacey (S4/E12) O' Brother Where Art Thou Litmus Test

    If you learn one thing from today's episode, it is that we both have a deep love for the Coen Bros classic, O' Brother Where Art Thou? If you don't like this movie, do not tell us about it. Erin had to edit approximately ten minutes out of said rant - there was so much more in defense of this perfect film. But outside of our very important opinions on 2001 film, we got to meet the rest of the Witter Fam today. Kerry (the cow) was there with the No-Neck monsters who have no taste in stories AT ALL. Jane Lynch (Amy's good friend) was there as Pacey's mom. And then of course we have Sheriff Witter making inappropriate comments all night, and Doug who is delighted to have some Chipped Beef. It was not the best birthday for Pacey, but as we learned, there have been worse. This year he was not mauled by a dog. What are we listening to? Reading? Watching? Amy: Reading - Amy doesn't read anymore because she gave up on literacy; Watching - Cold Mountain cause it's awesome. Mad Men (final season) and Jury Duty. Erin: Reading - How High We Go in the Dark by Sequoia Nagamatsu and The Last American Road Trip: A Memoir by Sarah Kendzior; Listening to - The last album or two of Grant Lee Phillips after listening to his whole discography; Watching - Shrinking (love) and Train Dreams (sad and beautiful).     The Tao of Dawson (S4/E11) RIP JVDB

    We are a bit late, but we had an extended episode that it took some time to get through. We needed to spend a little time to look back on some of our favorite James Van Der Beek moments. We are so sad that he has lost his fight with cancer, and we needed to focus on some of those great Dawson episodes. We eventually get into the episode of the day, which feels a little on-the-nose, if we are being honest. Also...BIG NEWS...Amy's dream DC relationship is HAPPENING. IT'S ALL HAPPENING!     Self-Reliance (S4/E10) I'm Looking After the Baby!

    Note: As mentioned in the podcast, we recorded this episode before we found out about the passing of James Van Der Beek. We were crushed to hear the news and will talk more about his career in the next episode. As for this episode...Joey thinks she can live on Walden Pond all alone because she's mad about Dawson and Gretchen but doesn't know why. We still really don't know why at the end of the episode, but at least she got a pretty photo out of the conversation that explained to us that they are friends again and all is well. This truly is a season of redemption for Dawson, and this picture was a very sweet moment, and honestly just a very nice photo to have taken and developed in his amazing darkroom that 17-year-old Erin is coveting. Dawson begins his documentary filmmaking journey. Pacey is trying to look after they baby. Jen and Jack go to a Gay Straight Alliance group meeting and go bowling. Jack is miserable. Jen could not be happier. Our weekly media Amy: Watching Mad Men (on Season 4 now and loving it), Still reading Sleeping Beauties (So so slowly) and Slaughterhouse 5 on audiobook (and loving it). Erin: Watched films Sentimental Value (Great acting) and Send Help (hilarious, dark and messy), Read We Used to Live Here (finally finished - spooky and alright) One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This (great, but hard to make yourself read or listen because it's so sad).     Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (S4/E9) Dawson Kissed a New Girl

    In today's episode, we are talking about the Pre-Christmas episode Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, sadly not the hit movie with Robert Downey Jr and Vil Kilmer (though we do touch on that). This is Season 4, Episode 9 of Dawson's Creek where we learn about Mr. Brooks' history of film direction and why he might be the crotchety old man that he is today. We learn why Jen is struggling so much with getting her applications done. And DUH! Of course that's why! We learn that Joey might have quite a steep social climb as she moves into near-Ivy league college life. We learn that the Guggenheim looks like an artichoke (but it really doesn't, Pacey). Apologies for the sound. Normally we make sure the HVAC is not running in the house during recording. This was not possible as it is approximately -52 degrees outside. The heat needs to keep heating. The sound is not great. It's Groundhog Day today. We hope you're spending the day with someone you love, or with Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell.     The Unusual Suspects (S4/E8) Let's Do the Man Dance!

    Who is Keyser Soze? That is the question of this week's episode when the audience is trying to sort out who carried out the Senior Prank to end all Senior Pranks! We actually loved this episode and it was a joy to take a break from some of the heavier drama. Jack is back to his normal self that we have missed. Pacey comes to a realization about his brother. Dawson and Pacey are clearly at least TALKING to each other now. And we always love a good story about someone getting their comeuppance. Oh, and GO HOOSIERS!     You Had Me At Goodbye (S4/E7) Why Don't You Ask Your Mom?!

    Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoosiers! Well, this was our New Year/Rose Bowl episode. We hope everyone had a great holiday season and enjoyed watching IU pounce Alabama. Outside of our holiday discussion this week we discuss how bad the entire premise of this episode is. We are sick of the Dawson v. Pacey of it all. We talk about how the show is so horrible to Jen and FOR WHAT?! WHY?! We are glad that Andie took responsibility and are sad about Mr. McPhee. The character of the day was a bit of a challenge this week. This episode was rated very highly but Amy especially did NOT agree. One photograph cannot fix an entire episode, can it?     Great Xpectations (S4/E6) You Wanna Try Aspirin?

    ***DISCLAIMER*** If you are into the rave scene, you may be offended by Erin and Amy's ranting and laughter in this episode. Please accept our apology. It just was not our scene. We do not mean to judge. Today's episode was a wild ride though, right? We learn SO much about THE rave culture, and what the cool kids are doing in old warehouses.     A Family Way (S4/E5) Joey's Birth Control Warehouse

    We are less than 24 hours late today! In the midst of the holiday season, I'm going to give myself a little break and say "THAT IS OK!" All of our main characters are doing their best this week, except Pacey who is PLAYING GAMES! We do not approve, but then we have to remember, "Oh, right! They're 17!" But still. This is very un-Pacey-like. Joey and Bessie get into it in the most unhinged Potter B&B scene ever. This is way beyond Bessie flirting with Fred Fricke.
