    Episode 5: joining forces

In the final episode of his podcast series, Morteza hosts ARC CBBC PhD candidate Suzan Schoemaker from Utrecht University. Methane is often used to produce hydrogen, but the traditional ways of doing this result in CO2 emission. They explore how, instead of CO2, useful carbon materials can be produced when making hydrogen from methane. They also discover how their projects, in fact, rely on each other.

Episode 4: a thermometer of light

Morteza’s guest is PhD candidate Daan Groefsema from Utrecht University. They discuss Daan’s project, which focuses on converting methane into the valuable building block ethylene. He explains how he uses a thermometer based on light to analyze this reaction, and how this helps to understand the reaction better.

Episode 3: (not) flaring is caring

Morteza is joined by ARC CBBC PhD candidate Sebastian Haben from Utrecht University. Methane is often found as a side product at oil extraction sites, but is burned without making good use of it. How can we change this, and make sure this methane is not wasted and burned, so it does not contribute to more greenhouse gas emissions? And what makes this so challenging?

Episode 2: the two faces of methane

Morteza's guest is Kay Buist, assistant professor at the department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry at the Technical University of Eindhoven. They talk about the applications of methane, but also about its drawbacks. Do we still need methane in the future, and if so, how can we avoid its drawbacks?

    Episode 1: green methane

Morteza hosts Henneke de Vries from Shell. They talk about the origins of methane, sustainable methane production and the future of green methane!
