Lucy O Hagan | GP, writer, performer, speaker, teacher and mentor

GP, writer, performer, speaker, teacher and mentor from Aotearoa, New Zealand.Lucy has been a columnist for NZ Doctor magazine for many years and in 2024 recorded audio stories and reflections written during the pandemic. Waiting for Covid is available on podcast platforms. Inside the GP Consultation her one woman show with 32 characters is currently touring New Zealand. Her best selling book Everything But the Medicine explores the complex human stories in the consultation, the character ‘doctor’ and the idea of a story doctor. Lucy also shares personal stories including her burnout story anchoring the idea that the doctor is also human. Trish Greenhalgh | Champion of Social Science and Medicine

Trish Greenhalgh is Professor of Primary Care Health Sciences at the University of Oxford since 2015, previously at University College London and Queen Mary University of London.Trish is Programme Director for the MSc and DPhil in Translational Health Sciences. She leads a programme of research at the interface between social sciences and medicine. Her past research has covered the adoption and use of new technologies; the evaluation and improvement of clinical services at the primary-secondary care interface, narrative methods to illuminate the illness experience in ‘hard to reach’ groups; the challenges of implementing evidence-based practice; and the application of philosophy to clinical practice. She is the author of almost 500 peer-reviewed publications and 16 textbooks, and was awarded the OBE for Services to Medicine by Her Majesty the Queen in 2001, made a Fellow of the UK Academy of Medical Sciences in 2014, elected an International Fellow of the US Academy of Medicine in 2021, and elected to the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management in 2024. Festival of Music on Heir island

A classical chamber music concert featuring musicians from the Irish and European Doctors Orchestra in the Boathouse on Heir Island Pier. It includes interviews with Dr Dave Thomson (Oboe), Dr Conor Molony (Violin), and Dr Xanthe Cross (Cello) who discuss what music means to them in their personal and professional lives. The concert is the highlight of week long musical retreat where a group of doctors, each with a particular musical talent, come together to create music, walk, swim and enjoy likeminded company and conversation. Heir Island is a remote island off the SouthWest Coast of Ireland, accessible only by ferry.

Nick Zwar | Chronic Disease Care

Executive Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine, Bond University, Gold Coast, Queensland, and adjunct Professor of General Practice in the School of Population Health at UNSW Sydney. Nick has been a GP for more than 30 years and continues to work part-time in clinical practice. His research interests are on prevention and management of chronic diseases with a focus on respiratory illness. He also has a long-term clinical, teaching, and research interest in travel medicine and is chair of the RACGP Travel Medicine Specific Interest Group . Nick is the immediate past chair of the National Asthma Council Guideline Committee and the RACGP Smoking Cessation Guidelines Expert Advisory Group. Other positions include: Member Executive Committee RACGP Preventive Guidelines, Member Lung Foundation Australia COPDX Guideline Committee, Board member Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service. When not at work Nick might be seen trying to catch a wave at Burleigh Heads.

Airton Stein | Improving Health Quality

Professor Dr Airton Stein has dedicated more than two decades to advancing evidence-based guidelines and improving health quality on a global scale. Airton Tetelbom Stein Graduated in Medicine at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (1981), Family Physician at Rio Grande do Sul Health Secretariat, Master Medical Sciences, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1989), Master’s degree in Community Health For Developing Countries – London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (1990) and Doctorate in Medical Sciences, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1998). Associate editor of the Brazilian Journal of Epidemiology and the Scientific Journal of the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre - Clinical Biomedical. Member of the Editorial Board of the journal Scientific Reports, from the Nature group. He was Head of the Department of Public Health and Full Professor of Public Health at the Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre until January 2025, when he retired. He was Provost of Research and Graduation courses and Head of the Department of Public Health and Full Professor of Public Health at the Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre until January 2025, when he retired. He was a professor in the Professional Master’s Program in Health Technology Assessment at the Conceição Hospital Group and in the Postgraduate Courses in Health Sciences at UFCSPA. He is still working as a tutor in Information Technology and Management at UFCSPA. He has greatly contributed to teaching and implementing guideline concepts in South America.In recognition of his continued dedication to the guideline community, Airton was awarded an Honorary FGIN in 2024.

Glenn Colquhoun | Seeing the Poetry in Everyday

Glenn Colquhoun is a GP, poet, and children's writer. His first collection The art of walking upright won the Jessie Mackay best first book of poetry award at the 2000 Montana book awards. Playing God, his third collection, won the poetry section of the same awards in 2003 as well as the reader's choice award that year. He was awarded the Prize in modern letters in 2004 and a Fulbright scholarship to Harvard University in 2010. In 2012 he was part of the ‘Transit of Venus’ poetry exchange at the Frankfurt book fair and in 2014 represented New Zealand on the Commonwealth Poets United poetry project which celebrated the Glasgow Commonwealth Games that year. His latest collection of poetry The Ballad of Joe Taihape was published in 2026. He works as a GP in Horowhenua.

Hamish Wilson | Reflective Medical Practice

Hamish Wilson is a GP and nearly retired Associate Professor at Otago Medical School, Dunedin, NZ. From 1996, he taught in the Diploma/Masters programme for GPs, leading the the ‘nature’ or philosophy paper. From 2008, he introduced undergraduate medical students to community-based, experiential learning and reflective practice. He is a qualified Balint Group leader and co-leads the reflective essay competition for medical students in Australasia. With Wayne Cunningham, he published ‘Being a Doctor: Understanding Medical Practice’ (2013) that explored some of the clinical challenges for GPs and other clinicians. He is now writing a second book on emerging approaches to functional illness or persistent physical symptoms.

Bob Woollard | Social Accountability

Robert F Woollard is Emeritus Professor of Family Practice at the University of British Columbia. He has extensive national and international experience in the fields of medical education, social accountability of medical schools, ecosystem approaches to health, and sustainable development. In this he has or is holding leadership roles in the CFPC, CMA, AFMC, AMEE, and The Network TUFH. He is actively involved in Nepal with a national medical school, school of public health and a nursing school founded on the principles of social accountability established through his initial feasibility study. He Chairs the International Advisory Board (IAB) for the newly established University of Nepal (Dec. 2024) a new public liberal arts university. His work in East Africa and Asia is centered on matters of social accountability, primary care, rural health and accreditation systems. Dr. Woollard co-chairs the Global Consensus on Social Accountability for Medical Schools (GCSA) and does extensive work in this area with many international bodies. He was a lead organizer for the World Summit on Social Accountability that led to the Tunis Declaration and recently chaired the Scientific Committee for TUFH2022 the annual conference of this network devoted to social justice and health, leading to the declaration https://thenetworktufh.org/tufh-2022- declaration/ He has engaged in a range of grant supported work including the establishment of CoPEH-Canada and the five year ECHO project on watershed scale integration of environmental, community and health. As an Associate Director of the Rural Coordination Centre of BC (RCCbc) he provided central leadership in the development of a Canadian national strategy for addressing educational and service needs for surgical and obstetrical services in rural Canada in particular Aboriginal service access for birthing. And, has worked in many areas to reduce racism in BC’s health system. Above all he is a husband, father, and grandfather.
