Hot Potatoes: Are Demons Real, and Should I Be Scared | David Eiffert

Are demons real? And if they are, should you be scared of them? This week we kicked off the return of our summer series Hot Potatoes, where each week we take one hot topic and talk about it just for the week. First up: demons. It's a topic that fascinates people and terrifies people, and most of what we think we know about it actually comes from Hollywood, not the Bible. In this message we walk right down the middle of two ditches. One ditch pretends none of this is real. The other gets obsessed and scared and weird about it. The goal is to be aware, but not afraid. We work through four things: 1. Demons are real. Not Christian lore, not a metaphor. Jesus took them seriously, and fighting demonic influence was front and center in his ministry. 2. Demons have already been disarmed. The cross was an eviction. They still try to convince you they have power they no longer have. 3. Against a Christ-follower, their only weapon is deception. They can't force you. They can only fool you, and a lie only lands if you believe it. 4. You carry Jesus' authority. You are filled with the Spirit, and Jesus put real authority back in your hands. Here's the heart of it: if you and a demon are in the same room, the one who should be scared is the demon, not you. Scriptures we look at: Colossians 2:15, John 12:31, Genesis 3:1, John 8:44, Luke 10:19-20, Hebrews 9:27, and Genesis 1:26. For The Right Reasons | David Eiffert

What if God isn't only watching what we do, but why we do it? In this one-week message, Pastor David Eiffert walks through Isaiah 58 and asks an honest question about motives: are we serving God, helping people, and even doing good things for the right reasons, or has something else crept underneath? We live in a society that cares more about image than character. But God is concerned with the WHAT, and he's just as concerned with the WHY. Four things to take with you: 1. Pure actions will inevitably follow a pure heart. 2. Watch out for a shifting heart when success comes. 3. Impure desires often disguise themselves as excessive self-care. 4. Without love, even great actions become meaningless. If you've ever caught yourself asking, "Wait, why am I really doing this?" this message is for you. Scriptures referenced: Isaiah 58, Proverbs 26:12, 1 Corinthians 13. Jesus, Etc. | David Eiffert

Pastor David Eiffert pulls back the curtain on how he understands and lives out the Christian faith. The title says it all: Jesus, etc. Jesus is the centering principle, and everything else, all the "etc," radiates from him. Starting in John 1, we see that no one has ever seen God, but the Son has made him known. God is the ultimate mystery, the one thing you would never find by scanning the universe, because he creates from outside of it. On our own, we can no more find God than Bilbo Baggins can find J.R.R. Tolkien. Unless the author writes himself into the story. That is the incarnation. From there we walk up Mount Tabor with Peter, James, and John, watch Jesus transfigured beside Moses and Elijah, and hear the Father say the one thing he says again and again in the New Testament: "This is my Son. Listen to him." Three movements anchor the message: 1. We start with Jesus. 2. Jesus is what God looks like. He does not change the Father, he reveals the Father. 3. Jesus informs all the "etc." Family, work, politics, money, ethics, everything. Jesus does not save us from God. Jesus reveals God as savior. There should be no dark corner in your life where Christ does not reach. This week, pick one "etc." The loudest one. The one that has become a little too central. Ask Jesus what it looks like for him to be at the center of that one thing. Scriptures referenced: John 1:14-18, Colossians 2:2-3, Matthew 17:1-8, John 5:39-40, Luke 24:27, Hebrews 1:1-3, Colossians 1:15. A House for the Next Generation | David Eiffert

In the final week of our Heart for the House series, Pastor David lands the plane on a question that reframes everything we do in this house: what are we leaving for the people who haven't walked through the doors yet? Drawing from King David's preparation for a temple he would never see, the priestly garments of Aaron passed down to his sons, and Paul's reminder to Timothy that his faith was carried by his grandmother and mother before him, this message turns the focus from what church does for us to what we owe to those still coming. Three things the next generation needs from us: 1. Our presence. They learn what matters by watching what we prioritize. 2. Our passion. Faith is not just taught, it is transferred. They will wear what we wear. 3. Our sacrifice. Like the cathedral builders who planted forests they would never see grow, we get to give for an outcome we may never witness. Children are 22 percent of our population and 100 percent of our future. We are building a house for people who will never say thank you, because somebody built one for us. Scriptures: Exodus 3:1-6, 2 Corinthians 7:6, Exodus 29:29, 2 Timothy 1:5, Psalm 69:9, 1 Chronicles 29:3-5, Hebrews 11:39-40 Facebook: / believerscenter Instagram: / believerscenter Giving: https://pushpay.com/g/believerscenter First Time: https://believerscenter.churchcenter.com/people/forms/797243 Salvation / Rededication: https://believerscenter.churchcenter.com/people/forms/797600 Thanks so much for listening to the Believers Center podcast!
