This is the NINTH standalone 'Spider-Man' movie. Come on now. It's hardly brand new. It's not even new. It's old hat, right? Filled with cobwebs, even? OH HERE WE GO. Anyway, it's a review of that and me going through the eight best movies I've seen so far this year. Not arsed listening through? Well, fine.     39 Minutes Absolutely Glazing 'The Odyssey'

    ITHACA OR BUST. Yes, after a two-week odyssey across everyone else's podcast and the South of France where it was nearly 40 degrees, I have returned home to find my house in disarray and my podcast being supplanted by other suitors. Or something. Whatever. I finally got to see 'The Odyssey' last night in the Irish Film Institute in glorious 70mm and this is my 39-minute glazing of what I saw. It was incredible. A genuine sensory experience of the foundations of storytelling, an indictment of our current world order told through Greek mythology, a whopper of a score by Ludwig Goransson, and just all the BS surrounding it too. Does it have the appeal to reach wide audiences? Is that even a thing anymore? Does it live up to the imagined hype? Was there even hype about this, to begin with?     TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES - PLEASE STAND BY. Unfortunately, we were supposed to be joined by none other than Screenland regular Deirdre Molumby but technology and fate intervened and it wasn't to be, so you're stuck with me this week. Nevertheless, it's still an OK show? I guess? Anyway, this week I'm talking about basically the only movie out in cinemas this week, 'Toy Story 5'. Has the franchise run out of steam? Are toys as we know it done for in the age of screens? Why has it taken this long for Conan O'Brien to finally do what he was always meant to do, which is voice a toilet-training device in a major animated film? Elsewhere, we're musing on the latest season of 'House of the Dragon', how I still can't get over how bad the final season of 'Game of Thrones' was, and how 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' basically saved me from myself. Zara Hedderman joins me to talk about Senor Spielbergo's third - fourth if you count 'War of the Worlds' - alien-centric sci-fi thriller in 'Disclosure Day', starring Emily Blunt and Josh O'Connor as two seemingly random people who are inextricably drawn to one another as a shadowy American government-linked agency led by Colin Firth of all people rushes to stop them from releasing a seventy-year archive of information of alien landings and experiments. Think 'The X-Files' but, y'know, with Steven Spielberg directing. Elsewhere, Zara Hedderman gets paranoid about 'The Conversation', Francis Ford Coppolla's weird and wonderful spy drama with a terrific and against-type performance from Gene Hackman. Anyway, we're talking about that Brit romcomzomnom 'Finding Emily' with Spike Fearn and Angourie Rice, who just so happens to be the daughter from 'The Nice Guys' - which as fate would have it - is our classic movie this week in honour of its 10th anniversary. I'm going to flag that right away, I messed up the levels on microphone but what of it, our bonus episode is all about Fionnuala Jones uncovering the excitement and appeal of 'Pokémon' and its first season, known to those with Pokéball knowledge as Indigo League. Fionnuala Jones is the host of Flop Culture, as well as being a broadcaster, writer, radio contributor and can be seen and heard on The Six O'Clock Show on Virgin Media, Movies and Booze on Newstalk, and her own social media presence as well. Yes, on this week's show, I'm reviewing the long-in-gestation sequel to 'The Devils Wears Prada', a rom-com starring Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt that had zero impact on me and barely registered but somehow has become a cultural touchstone for a vast swathe of Western civilisation. It's always fun when you're reminded of how alone you are in the world. Elsewhere, I'm reviewing Damian McCarthy's 'Hokum', starring Adam Scott in which he experiences the true and disturbing horror of holidaying in rural Ireland, and I'm also talking about 'Once Upon A Time In A Cinema', David Gleeson's semi-autobiographical tale of local cinemas on the eve of their demise.
