    Writer/Director Skinner Myers is an award-winning filmmaker and film professor at Loyola Marymount University. Skinner wrote and directed four short films: Chimera, The Last Supper, Obscured, and N****r, while studying film at USC School of Cinematic Arts. I reached out to Skinner after seeing “The Sleeping Negro” at Slamdance 2021. “Confronted with a series of racially charged incidents, a young black man must overcome rage, alienation, and hopelessness in order to find his own humanity.”







    The writer/director says he used a “narrative/experimental” approach to filmmaking.



















    Skinner and I talk filmmaking, his path to directing and how he made this film, of course. Then we venture into a very real discussion of racism in America, racial inequality, and more heavy stuff that needs to be discussed. I know you’ll appreciate Skinner’s POV.

    Leo Burnett Detroit Creative Directors Dan Councilor and Tom Topolewski discuss shooting remotely from the agency perspective. I’d shot Buick with the team (Dan is an Art Director and Tom a copywriter) in February again for the NCAA March Madness, but this time Tom watched the camera feed via zoom and facetimed with us. Dan had his boots on the ground. Now, I love having the creatives with me on set. The energy and ideas bounce around more fluidly. What practices will stick as the pandemic dies down?
