    #41 - Q&A with Neil Woods

During our event with Neil at Litteraturhuset the audience sent in questions for Neil. Thank you everyone who sent in such good questions. In this episode you will have Neil's response to every single question. A lot of the topics included in the lecture are also covered in the regular episode with Neil that can be found on this podcast (#40 - Revealing the Missing Link to Climate Justice: Drug Policy). For anything Neil did not talk about in the episode, he gives the context for during the Q&A, so if you didn't make it to the lecture, you are still able to follow. The following time stamps can be used to navigate the episodes to find the questions you are the most interested in: 0:00 - Start 0:58 - Do you get recognised by people you arrested as an undercover cop? 3:35 - Will organised crime take advantage of the police informant system to get rid of opponents and then introduce a new drug? 10:18 - Norway has become a transit country for cocaine, does that mean we have corrupt assets?  14:20 - Would it be a strategic investment for organized crime to fund right wing parties and politicians? 20:40 - Do organised crime influence politics to avoid steps toward regulating the illegal market. 22:27 - What is polluting about the actual cocaine refining process and is there less pollution in legal cocaine production? 22:50 - Does decriminalisation have any impact on organised crime? 35:25 - What does regulation mean? Does it mean we have to legalise cocaine? 41:13 - The economic arguments for regulating cocaine are compelling, but how should this be balanced with public health concerns? 51:04 - Why are politicians fact resistant when it comes to the failures of the war on drugs? 1:07:30 - Isn’t the real problem that we don’t have the same amount of money as organised crime? 1:12:06 - Why is Trump so vocal about blowing up boats accused of being part of drugs trafficking? 1:16:38 - Is there a connection between these organised crime groups and UK football violence? 1:19:10 - What can we do to help? #40 - Revealing the Missing Link to Climate Justice: Drug Policy

The Amazon rainforest is one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on our planet and home to many people, including indigenous peoples. But the rainforest is under threat, deforestation is escalating and we are fast approaching a "tipping point" which could have dire consequences for life on this planet. In November 2025 the world's countries will come together for the COP and negotiate how to deal with the climate crisis. We know a lot about the drivers of deforestation, but one mechanism has been under-communicated and remains rather unknown. Coincidentally this mechanism is clearly visible in Belém, the city in Brazil where this year's COP will take place: the illicit cocaine industry. This is an episode you do not want to miss! Our guest is Neil Woods, a committed drug reform and environmental activist. Neil's field of expertise is corruption stemming from the financial power of the drug markets, which he witnessed first hand as an undercover cop in England. In this episode he will recount his realization of the corrupting forces of drug crime in the UK, before diligently mapping out the destructive global powers of the illicit drug economy, which threatens the Amazon and our very survival on this planet. Episoden er tekstet til norsk trykk på videoen for å undertekst.  Link to report: "Revealing the Missing Link to Climate Justice: Drug Policy" (2022) - https://www.healthpovertyaction.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/REPORT-Revealing-the-Missing-Link-to-Climate-Justice-Drug-Policy.pdf Link to report "From Forest to Dust" (2025) . https://static1.squarespace.com/static/67066f2ebf7a0922d6d337d3/t/69034d15fc9fc112cccff630/1761824021518/20251028_From+Forest+to+Dust_V3.pdf Link to lecture at Litteraturhuset:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bsIbnazqi0 Vil du støtte oss i kampen for rusreform?
