    Tourism & COVID in Spain + Election 2020 with Oliver Lucas Guardo

    My ol' friend and fellow Progressive Abroad Oliver Lucas Guardo joins the show from Madrid, Spain where he has been living for the past Decade. Oliver shares the story of his post-college emigration from the US as the 2009 financial crisis swept the globe. Finding refuge as an English teacher in Spain, Oliver earned a Master in Bilingual Education and began a successful career as a Food Tour Guide...that is until the COVID-19 pandemic swept the globe, obliterating all signs of the tourism industry in its path. With both of us victims of a now now-defunct global tourism industry, we discuss how life is abroad in these uncertain times, how our 'host' countries have responded to the pandemic in terms of support for businesses and the population. As well, we delve into our thoughts on the current state of society & culture surrounding politics in the US, the 2020 election, reflections on 2016, socialized medicine and a whole lot more.
