Episode 11 - The Milk of Life

Hello and welcome to another episode of our sister circle season. If this is your first time joining us – welcome and if you are a regular listener – welcome back 😊 In this episode we are joined by two wonderful guests; Michelle Elliott who honestly shares her struggle to breastfeed and Elaine Kindred-Spalding, Midwife and lactation specialist for our conversation on breastfeeding. We are going to be talking about the highs and lows and everything in between when it comes to this weeks miraculous thing that women's bodies can do. There’s a reason why it’s called “liquid gold” – breast milk is truly amazing in what it can do for your baby Breast milk provides the ideal nutrition for infants. It has a nearly perfect mix of vitamins, protein, and fat -- everything your baby needs to grow. Breast milk contains antibodies that help your baby fight off viruses and bacteria. What's more, the physical closeness, skin-to-skin touching, and eye contact all help your baby bond with you and feel secure.   But it is not always a simple or successful journey for every woman. Content warning:  Please be mindful that we do talk about the psychological trauma of inability to breastfeed so some may of this may be triggering and upsetting for listeners personally impacted by this issue. Episode 10 - The pear of life

Hello lovely listeners! If this is your first time joining us on Be on Purpose – Welcome, if you are a regular listener, welcome back. For the past few weeks we have been talking about the female cycle, fertility, pregnancy and birth and as vast as those topics have been and as varied as the stories we have heard are – there is something that plays an integral part in each and every one of those scenarios. The uterus. This hollow, pear-shaped muscular organ that sits in a woman's pelvis is where a fetus develops and grows and it's function is to nourish and house the fertilised egg until the unborn baby is ready to be delivered. There are however a number of medical conditions that can affect the uterus such as cysts/polyps, endometriosis, fibroids, adenomyosis and cancer. This week we are going to be talking about uterine health. We want to hear from you!!  Share your stories and join the conversation.   You can connect with us on Instagram - @be.on.purpose  Leave us a voice message at anchor.fm/anita-harewood/message Email us on beonpurposethepodcast@gmail.com Referenced in this episode: Endometriosis information - www.endometriosis-uk.org/information Black Women's Health Study - www.theamberproject.org/black-womens-health-study Relaxers and Fibroids - www.essence.com/new/hair-beat-can-hair-relaxers-cause-uterine-fibroids The delay to treatment - www.lablog.uofmhealth.org Music credit: Intro “snowing butterflies" Artist : Mark Purpose
