    Dr. Ken Erickson - Did the horrific tragedy of George Floyd’s death have a bigger impact on people of all races, ethnicities and cultures than we understand?

    Is it possible that what occured between two men tapped into a collective consciousness that expands out to include millions of others who, while being seperated by culture, race, and even citizenship are united within a collective consciousness that share a common experience of “feeling’ a “knee” across their neck. The sense of being powerless in the face of authority. The feeling that your voice is unheard and perhaps even worse unimportant. Despite the obvious tragedy for all involved in the death of George Floyd, is there a possibility that this event is serving as a catalyst to ensure all of us are aware of and understand the struggles and pain we experience so that we move toward a better tomorrow?

    Walt Pickut- The Threat – The Remarkable Untold story of the FBI’s First Counterespionage Case against the Soviet Union.

    Walt Pickut's writing career began with publishing medical research in 1971 while working at the Jersey City Medical Center and the NYU Hospital and School of Medicine. Walt holds board registries in respiratory care and sleep technology as well as bachelor's degrees in biology and communication, and a master's degrees in physiology from Fairleigh-Dickinson University in New Jersey, with additional graduate work in mass communication completed at SUNY Amherst. He holds memberships in the Society of Professional Journalists and the American Society of Business Publication Editors. He lives in Jamestown with his wife Nancy, an MSW social worker, and has three children: Dr. Cait Lamberton in Pittsburgh, Bill Pickut, a marketing executive in Chicago, and Rev. Matt Pickut in Plymouth, IN. Walt talks about his work on oxygen that he completed for NASA.  He also shares a bit about growing up within a German speaking family in New Jersey shortly after the end of World War II, explaining the racism he experienced for being German and speaking German and acknowledges that the racism he experienced was not comparable to what Black Americans and Hispanic Americans experience today. Walts new book , The Threat – The Remarkable Untold Story of the FBI’s First Counterespionage Case against the Soviet Union. The Threat is the pulse-quickening and traumatic story of spy, counterspy, and an American family unwittingly caught in its web. Until this case, the FBI had never recruited civilian counterspies to catch a Soviet agent. The first two were Larry Haas, a leading aviation engineer at Bell Aviation, and Leona Franey, head librarian at Bell’s technical library. The FBI pitted them against a Soviet agent, Andrei Ivanovich Schevchenko, operating legally as one of the highest Soviet officials in the United States during WWII, and illegally as the secret head of a wide-ranging spy network hidden within the American aviation industry. The Threat lays out this exciting story and, later, the consequences of Schevchenko’s deadly threat of vengeance against Haas, the counterspy who betrayed him. The threat was uttered in a mere fourteen seconds but generated lethal consequences that long outlived Schevchenko, tormented Larry Haas, killed his wife, and subjected his daughter, Kay (the co-author of this book), to decades of nearly fatal harassment. And thereby hangs a tale of spy vs. spy intrigue against the backdrop of the home front during World War II.

    Dr Ken Erickson DC PhD- Seeking Yourself Outside of Yourself

    Dr. Ken shares his understanding of Health.  However, he describes Health and explains that it is an attitude and perspective rather than a noun, a.k.a. “a thing”.  He believes it’s not just about measuring your vital signs and results obtained from a person’s bloodwork, but that it’s actually about being connected to others because this is actually what plays a large role in everyone’s health. Dr. Ken Erickson shares his life's journey by telling about his experiences as a young national powerlifter title holder after participating in powerlifting competitions,  becoming a master Union Electrician at the age of 25, and owning his own business and finding himself in charge of about 20 employees. Dr. Ken completed his workouts at a gym where a few local chiropractors and medical doctors also worked out.  He found he was immediately drawn to the chiropractors because of their energy and overall approach to life.  To Dr. Ken, their perspective was life affirming because of their focus on health and well-being rather than the negative perspective medical doctors had which was often related to  disease, infirmity, and death, as it was inevitable and imminent.  The positive approach to health that he witnessed, led Dr. Ken to close his business and follow this new passion.  Dr. Ken earned his Doctor of Chiropractic Degree in 1997 and his Post Doctoral Diplomate in Clinical Neurology in 2001, both from Logan University/College of Chiropractic in St. Louis,  Missouri.  Dr. Ken didn’t stop there, in 2011 he received his PhD in Health Psychology/Health Science from St. Martin’s College/Lancaster University in Lancaster England. After all his accomplishments and achievements, Dr. Ken found himself unsatisfied, maybe even a little discouraged after receiving his Doctor of Health Psychology/Health Science.  It was at this time that he began to realize not to seek himself outside himself.   He began to wonder if his ambition that drove him to achieve his many accomplishments were actually a result of him seeking outside validation.  He now knows how important it is not to seek validation from others.  I asked him to share three reasons why people should not seek validation outside of themselves.  This is Ken’s summarized response to my questions. If you seek to validate yourself and your self-worth by anything outside of your own internal compass you are seeking a falsehood. If the value of anything outside yourself is defined by someone else's judgment and opinion, it is not you. If you seek external validation you will be a puppet being controlled by other people's judgments and will not be in control of your own life. By seeking other people's validation you can never come to know your true self,  nor will you ever be able to know your true worth.   This results in never knowing yourself. You will mistake your true self for a shadow self that is not real. Enjoy !!!
