In the May edition of the Keep On Moving Podcast – Business edition
Murray Lindsay catches up with Scania New Zealand MD Victor Carvalho, just over six months into his tenure in the top Kiwi role. We might be a little country tucked away in the bottom of a big world, but we can still come up with plenty of surprises for those coming here from other markets – cool trucks, plenty of variation, and big engines. Supporting the aftersales is key to the company vision and tomorrow's success.
Dave McCoid talk to Fruehauf NZ general manager of manufacturing Rory O'Sullivan, who recently won the IRTENZ scholarship to attend a three day course on the Fundamentals of Heavy Vehicle Dynamics at the University of Michigan.
UD has a new Quon with enhanced safety features. Dave McCoid talks to Colin Muir, general manager UD Truck Distributors in New Zealand, and New Zealand's UD oracle himself, key account manager Marvin Fynn. A chat perfectly aligned to the upcoming June 2024 New Zealand Trucking magazine, which features two of the new models working for Auckland icon, Tom Ryan Cartage.
There's a whole new world heading our way, and whether we like it or not, we need to find out more about it so we're ready. Powering On talks to people in the know and those who have already headed off on a new propulsion journey. We aim to make it not too techy, delivering useful information for those who will still be responsible for delivering tomorrow's goods...
This month – Ryan McDonald from Hiringa Energy speaks about the exciting developments for both Hiringa and the road transport industry here.
Clear the Air is the section where co-host Dave McCoid and his good mate and environmental champion Lindsay Wood discuss the climate and environmental issues of the day, as they should be discussed – respectfully...

Keep On Moving Podcast Ep 29 (The Ken Kirk Episode)

Keep On Moving Podcast Ep 29 (The Ken Kirk Episode)

The intellectual might of the New Zealand Trucking Media team brings all they have to the table. The result is … concerning. This month the brain power is enhanced no end however, with a real pro – Tim Giles, editor of PowerTorque magazine in Australia, joins the team for a yarn.
In the Mike's Transport Warehouse feature interview, another life truly akin to a Boys Own Adventure, Ken Kirk has lived life to the full having witnessed at an early age just how precious and fragile it is following the death by accident of his brother Malcom. Trucks, machines, lighthouse keeping, and lots more are in the Ken Kirk life book, all spread between the ANZAC nations. He's a life lesson in opportunity, optimism, and learning. There'll be plenty to take away from this one.
Then, there's a whole new world heading our way, and whether we like it or not, we need to find out more about it so we're ready ... powering on talks to people in the know and those who have already headed off on a new propulsion journey. We aim to make it not too techy, delivering useful information for those who who will still be responsible for delivering tomorrows goods.
We get the segment going with a chat to Scott Robinson, national sales manager for Volvo Trucks New Zealand, and Kirsten Chaddock, national emerging technology manager for Volvo Trucks, Bus and Coach in New Zealand.
In a new podcast section, Clear the Air sees co-host Dave McCoid and his good mate and environmental champion Lindsay Wood discuss the climate and environmental issues of the day, as they should be discussed – respectfully!
Finally, you could be with him at the pub having a beer ... It's always a hell of a laugh catching up with our good mate and Commercial Motor magazine editor Will Shiers to see what's going on in Blighty and the Euro zone.

Keep On Moving Podcast Ep 28 (RMD's Ron McClean and Ken Forsythe)

Keep On Moving Podcast Ep 28 (RMD's Ron McClean and Ken Forsythe)

In Episode 28 of the Keep on Moving podcast...
Dave, Gav and Carl talk about trucks, industry, events of the past month, the Feb 24 issue of New Zealand Trucking magazine, and anything else that takes their fancy. Where 'Blokes yarning' ends up is often alarming and always fun.
In the Mike's Transport Warehouse feature interview ... With Kenworth's New Zealand representative Southpac recently holding its birthday weekend for the great marque's 100 years, we went looking for a true Kenworth guts-and-glory story about big trucks, long hours and big loads. One of New Zealand's legacy trucking brands and liveries, Rorison Mineral Developments (RMD) trialblazed its way through early big-truck bulk cartage in the central North Island and Bay of Plenty. Founded by the late Ian Rorison, a risk taker and innovator who tapped into all that Kenworth promised on its arrival in New Zealand, RMD in the late 70s and 80s had it all – and drivers Ron McClean and Ken Forsythe share their tales.
Then, the Teletrac Navman Technology, Maintenance and Safety Conference takes place on 13 and 14 March. It's going to be like nothing before, an unaffordably affordable two-day conference with the sole aim of providing delegates with useable, practical, tools and information they can take home and apply to their businesses across a plethora of key industry subjects. New Zealand Trucking Association's Carol McGeady updates us what to expect.
One for the bookshelf… In the early 2000s Mike Isle wrote Ridin' the Rainbow, the history of the New Zealand Truck Trailer Manufacturer's Federation. Commissioned by the Federation, it is a must read for anyone with an interest in New Zealand road transport. Now, he’s released the sequel, In The Blood. It documents developments in the industry through the first two decades of the new century … the successor generations, and new entrants. Written in Mike's unique, dramatic, yet conversational style, In The Blood should not be left off the bookshelf of any transport buff.
What happens to old tyres? A long-term problem that up until now has had no sustained, viable solution. But that's all changed. Last year, the government announced  a recovery fee be placed on the all new tyres sold to cover the cost of recovery, recycling and reuse. Tyrewise is the entity tasked with administering this gargantuan exercise and we talk to Adele Rose to find out all you need to know.
Finally, last month Billy Clemens, Projects and Policy head at Ia Ara Aotearoa walked us through the association’s Diversity Toolbox. This month, we talk to Renwick Transport co-owner Jax Smith about taking the message to the industry as a diversity champion in the Marlborough region.
    She’s a biggie! Enjoy!
