T-Bone's Prime Cuts

T-Bone Mathley

After many years as a musician, T-Bone hosted T-Bone’s Prime Cuts, a freeform radio show on WICR-FM in Indianapolis, and worked in online promotion for some of the greatest musicians in the world. In 2018, brain surgery and a stroke caused him to take a step back from that life and step into a brand new one. His latest contribution brings together his vast knowledge from decades of experience as a guitar player, and as a lifelong fan of all kinds of music from heavy metal to blues, country to soul, gospel, rock, and everything in between.

Episode #15: Black Sabbath: The Dio Years

Join us as we delve into the Dio era of Black Sabbath, a period that redefined the band's sound and legacy. We discuss the book, Black Sabbath: The Dio Years with author Chris Sutton. The Dio Years, which spanned from 1980 to 1982, from 1991 to 1992, and a reunion in 2007 for a compilation which led to the formation of Heaven & Hell till his untimely death in 2010, were marked by the powerful vocals and songwriting of Ronnie James Dio. This epoch saw the release of the seminal albums "Heaven and Hell", "Mob Rules", and "Dehumanizer", which not only revitalized the band's career but also left an indelible mark on the metal genre. With Dio at the helm, Black Sabbath explored new heights of darkness and mysticism, crafting songs that would become staples of heavy metal. We'll discuss Ronnie and his fellow band members: Tony Iommi, who in my book was ALWAYS Black Sabbath, Geezer Butler, Bill Ward and Vinny Appice. In this video, we'll explore the history, the music, and the impact of Black Sabbath during The Dio Years, highlighting the band's evolution, the creative process behind their albums, and the enduring influence of this period on rock music. Whether you're a longtime fan of Black Sabbath or just discovering their work, this journey through The Dio Years promises to be a fascinating and enlightening look at a pivotal moment in metal history.
