    Erasmus+ Exchange 2024 (Before)

    In March 2024, a number of students from the University of Washington Bothel (USA) and South East Technological University (Ireland) began an exchange programme, funded via Erasmus+ and facilitated through Teach CoLab.     Rob O’Connor of SETU spoke with a number of the students about their attitudes and hopes for the exchange at the start of the process. This will be followed up another podcast at the end. On the panel were US Health Studies students Maya Nikolic and Andy Pham and Irish Health Promotion student Christina O’Reilly. Also in the studio was graduate Georgina Leahy who undertook a similar exchange in 2022. Georgina now works with the Youth Diversion programme The Sway Project.    This podcast will be followed up with an “after” piece when the exchange has been completed.

    Student Exchange: Americans in Ireland 2022

    Two exchange students from Washington State reflect on their experiences of life in Waterford, Ireland. In a very open and easy fashion, students Mindy Vu and Jennifer Dinh talk with Rob O'Connor (from Waterford) about the people they met and places they've visited during their time in Ireland. They also compare discuss differences in the academic approaches of the Irish and US systems. This exchange was financed through Erasmus+ funding obtained by the Teach CoLab project.     Re-introducing Teach CoLab in the Physical World

    The TEaCH CoLab group has enjoyed a number of onsite visits over the course of its life to date, but Covid called a halt to all of that for two years. However, this March (2022),  faculty from University of Washington, Bothell travelled to WIT to work on a variety of aspects of the TEaCH CoLab project. At the end of the visit, five members of staff recorded a podcast to reflect on the experiences of the previous few days. The panel talked about the importance of professional development and personal connection to this type of work, and the various ways in which the project has benefitted students, some of whom are now on an Erasmus+ exchange between campuses. They also discussed plans for the next phase of their work. The panel includes Jody Early and Andrea Stone from the University of Washington, Bothell and Jenny O'Connor and Mairead Barry of Waterford Institute of Technology. Hosted by Rob O'Connor of WIT.

    Community Engagement during the Pandemic

    The panel talk about academic community engagement during the COVID pandemic. They discuss projects they're involved with, how they worked pre-COVID, how things changed during COVID and what lessons can be learned for future unforeseen events.     Teaching Theory In Health Promotion: How and Why it's Important

    One of our own TEaCH CoLab colleagues, Jody Early interviews Professor Michael Harvey of Temple University in Philadephia. The interview took place as part of Jody’s role as social media editor for the peer reviewed journal – Pedagogy in Health Promotion. Michael Harvey is a professor of public health and recently wrote an award winning paper titled: How Do We Explain the Social, Political, and Economic Determinants of Health?     What Will Happen If Roe v Wade Is Overturned?

    This podcast is a recording of a webinar (held over Zoom) which was held over the summer in which the panel discussed what would happen if Roe v Wade was overturned, in terms of abortion rights and advocacy in US. The panel was comprised of Stephanie Tillman (The Feminist Midwife), Kimberly Clark (Senior Attorney at Legal Voice) and Meghan Eagan-Torkko (Assistant Professor and Director of Nursing and UWB). The conversation was chaired by Jody Early (Associate Professor at UWB)

    In our first episode, four academics reflect on their experiences of creating podcasts in an educational context over the past year (2020-2021). The discussion compares podcasting prior to the COVID pandemic, how they've adapted their workflows, what has worked for students and other random observations. The panel includes Jenny O'Connor (The Nerve), Bruce Wardrop (WinWin) and Rob O'Connor (The Machine) - all Irish faculty members at Waterford Institute of Technology - and Jody O. Early of University of Washington Bothel (US), a self-described Baby-Pod who's just starting out with the medium.
