Why We Stay Stuck in Situations We Know Aren’t Good for Us

165 | Why We Stay Stuck in Situations We Know Aren’t Good for Us | Salarah Kacey Starre What if the thing keeping you stuck isn’t the situation itself, but something happening underneath it that you haven’t yet been able to see? In this second instalment of my real client wisdom series, I’m sharing more of the powerful insights, patterns and breakthroughs that have emerged through my client sessions and my own personal journey. These are the conversations that can completely change the way you see something you’ve been struggling with. In this episode, we explore secondary gains, the hidden ways a difficult situation, behaviour or even physical challenge can sometimes serve or protect us without us consciously realising it. I share my own experience of being confronted with this question following my rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis, alongside examples from my client work that show just how intelligent our nervous system adaptations can be. We also look at the other side of hope. Hope can be beautiful, but sometimes continuing to hope that somebody or something will change can protect us from having to grieve what is actually happening right now. I explore what it really means to take your power back within relationships, why doing so doesn’t necessarily mean walking away, and how changing your own participation in an unhealthy dynamic can begin to change the entire pattern. Finally, we talk about the difference between compassion and carrying somebody. Understanding someone’s pain does not mean becoming responsible for their emotions, healing, choices or behaviour. Sometimes what looks like compassion can actually become rescuing – leaving us exhausted, resentful and unintentionally preventing another person from discovering their own power. In this episode, we explore: ✨ Secondary gains and the hidden benefits of staying stuck ✨ How the nervous system creates adaptations to protect us ✨ The questions that can reveal what a challenge may be helping you avoid ✨ Familiar pain and why it can feel safer than uncertainty ✨ How changing yourself changes relationship dynamics ✨ The difference between compassion, support and rescuing ✨ How carrying other people can create resentment and disempowerment ✨ Why learning to tolerate discomfort can be an important part of healing These aren’t theories taken from a textbook. They are real patterns I’ve witnessed in my own life and in the lives of the people I work with. My hope is that somewhere within these conversations, you hear the one thing that helps you see your own situation through a completely different lens. And sometimes, that one shift in awareness is where everything begins to change. The Hidden Ways You’re Giving Your Power Away (and how to claim it back!)

164 | The Hidden Ways You’re Giving Your Power Away (and how to claim it back!) | Salarah Kacey Starre What if the patterns that keep showing up in your life aren’t happening outside of you, but are revealing something within you that is finally ready to be seen? In this episode, I’m sharing some of the most powerful wisdom that has emerged through my client sessions over the last few months. These are real themes from real people navigating relationships, resentment, guilt, boundaries, self-abandonment and the uncomfortable process of learning to honour themselves differently. We explore why repeated experiences can actually be an invitation to look beneath the surface at the unconscious patterns influencing the way you respond to life, and why recognising your part in a pattern isn’t about blaming yourself. It’s about discovering the part you finally have the power to change. I talk about the subtle ways we abandon, betray and reject ourselves, saying yes when we mean no, putting somebody else’s feelings before our own, over-explaining, making excuses for another person’s behaviour, or communicating what we need and then backing away the moment somebody becomes uncomfortable. We also explore the important difference between healthy and unhealthy guilt, why resentment can sometimes be showing us where we have repeatedly overridden ourselves, and why a boundary without follow-through is ultimately just a request. Perhaps most importantly, we look at what it means to become comfortable with being uncomfortable. Because speaking your truth, honouring your needs and changing long-standing patterns won’t always feel comfortable, particularly when the people around you are accustomed to an older version of you. I also answer a listener question from Ingrid in Norway, who asks why she keeps abandoning what she needs even when she knows exactly what she wants. This episode is an invitation to move away from asking, “Why does this keep happening to me?” and towards a far more empowering question: What is this experience revealing about me, my patterns, and what I am now ready to change? Because responsibility isn’t blame. It’s recognising that while you cannot control another person’s behaviour or response, you can become conscious of your own, and that is where your power begins. In this episode, we explore: • Why repeated patterns can be a sign that something unconscious is ready to become conscious • The connection between self-abandonment and resentment • How self-betrayal can disguise itself as kindness, understanding or people-pleasing • Healthy guilt versus unhealthy guilt • Why somebody else’s disappointment doesn’t automatically mean you’ve done something wrong • Why boundaries need consistency and follow-through • Why another person’s reaction to your truth is not your responsibility • Why learning to tolerate discomfort is essential when breaking old patterns If this episode brings something into your awareness and you’d like support understanding the hidden patterns operating beneath the surface of your own life, I work one-to-one with clients around the world. If you haven’t yet read my book, The Only Way Out Is In: Healing the Hidden Patterns Running Your Life, it takes these conversations even deeper, helping you explore the unconscious beliefs, patterns and operating systems influencing the reality you experience. You can find the book on Amazon, with the link in the show notes. If you know somebody who needs to hear this conversation, please share the episode with them. Healing Your Nervous System: Nervous System Regulation & Self-Compassion - With Special guest Lucy Fry

163 | Healing Your Nervous System: Nervous System Regulation & Self-Compassion - With Special guest Lucy Fry | Salarah Kacey Starre In this episode of The Salarah K Starre Podcast, I’m joined by Lucy Fry, an integrative transpersonal psychotherapist, published author and couples counsellor, for a very real and down-to-earth conversation about the nervous system, healing and what it actually means to begin creating safety within ourselves. Lucy and I both came to nervous system work through our own lived experiences, and throughout this conversation we explore what dysregulation can look and feel like in everyday life, particularly when stress, hypervigilance, anxiety or constantly being “on” have become so familiar that we no longer recognise them as anything unusual. We talk about why the body can continue responding to situations through the lens of old experiences even when our conscious mind knows we are safe, and how learning to listen to those responses with curiosity and compassion can completely change our relationship with ourselves. We also explore self-compassion, shame, the inner child, co-regulation, repetitive patterns and the importance of allowing ourselves to be seen and heard rather than continually trying to fix, suppress or talk ourselves out of what we feel. One of my favourite parts of this conversation is our discussion around the seemingly insignificant micro-moments of everyday life. Rushing our lunch, filling every spare moment, taking our phones everywhere, moving from one task immediately into another or struggling to allow ourselves genuine rest can all give us clues about what is happening within our nervous system. Sometimes creating greater regulation isn’t about adding another healing practice to our list. It’s about creating more spaciousness, listening to the body and beginning to respond differently in those ordinary moments that make up our lives. We also speak about the reality that healing takes time. There isn’t necessarily one retreat, therapy session, spiritual practice or breakthrough that suddenly changes everything. Often transformation is created through years of small choices, greater awareness and repeatedly choosing to meet ourselves differently. This is a beautiful conversation about nervous system regulation, emotional healing, self-compassion, childhood patterns and learning to become a safer place for ourselves. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed recording it. 10 Ways You May Be Unknowingly Blocking What You Want

162 | 10 Ways You May Be Unknowingly Blocking What You Want | Salarah Kacey Starre What if the reason you’re not getting what you want isn’t because you’re doing manifestation wrong, you’re not thinking positively enough or your vibration isn’t high enough? In this episode, I’m exploring ten ways we can unknowingly get in the way of the very things we say we want, often through patterns we don’t even realise we’re repeating. We’ll look at what happens when you spend more time rehearsing the reality you don’t want than the one you do, why challenges don’t necessarily mean you’re going backwards, how we outsource feelings such as happiness, security, worth and enoughness to the things we’re trying to manifest, and why becoming obsessed with how something is going to happen can keep us stuck in control rather than allowing life to meet us somewhere we couldn’t have planned. I also explore the deeper side of manifestation: the version of you who would actually need to exist to hold what you’re asking for, the ways we hand responsibility for our internal world to other people, why uncomfortable emotions aren’t something to fear, and how hidden patterns can have us recreating the same emotional experiences with completely different people and circumstances. Because manifestation isn’t just about attraction. It’s about awareness, responsibility, embodiment and participation. In this episode, we explore: • Why you may be unconsciously rehearsing what you don’t want • The difference between desire and emotional dependency • Why a new challenge can actually be evidence of growth • What happens when you outsource your happiness, worth or security • The hidden cost of trying to control how everything happens • Why your current identity may not match the reality you’re asking for • How people-pleasing, over-giving and self-abandonment affect what you create • Why difficult emotions aren’t necessarily blocking your manifestation • How subconscious patterns keep recreating familiar experiences • The difference between surrender and passivity • How to create more without postponing your enjoyment of the life you already have If you recognise yourself in some of these patterns and want to understand more about what may be sitting underneath them, my book The Only Way Out Is In: Healing the Hidden Patterns Running Your Life takes this work much deeper. It will help you begin recognising the beliefs, patterns and unconscious programmes shaping the way you think, feel, behave and experience your life, and give you practical ways to start changing them. You can find The Only Way Out Is In on Amazon in Kindle and paperback, with the audiobook coming soon. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1917623321 If this episode brings something up for you, I’d love to hear what you recognised. Why Do I Keep Repeating the Same Relationship Patterns?

159 | Why Do I Keep Repeating the Same Relationship Patterns? | Salarah Kacey Starre Do you ever find yourself having the same argument with your partner over and over again? Perhaps you find yourself over-explaining, becoming defensive, trying to fix everything, people-pleasing, rescuing, or desperately wanting to be understood... yet somehow nothing ever changes. What if the argument isn't actually the problem? In this listener Q&A episode, Salarah explores one of the most common hidden patterns she sees in her coaching practice and explains why so many of us unknowingly react to today's challenges through yesterday's survival strategies. You'll discover why recurring relationship problems are rarely about what's happening on the surface, how old emotional wounds quietly influence the way we communicate, and why true healing begins when we stop focusing on changing other people and start becoming curious about the unconscious patterns running our own lives. In this episode, you'll learn: • Why recurring relationship arguments often have very little to do with the situation itself. • How childhood beliefs and survival strategies continue to shape adult relationships. • The difference between responding consciously and reacting from old emotional wounds. • Why people-pleasing, rescuing and over-giving may not be generosity at all. • How to begin recognising the hidden emotional needs driving your behaviour. • Practical questions you can ask yourself to interrupt old patterns and create lasting change. If you've ever found yourself wondering, "Why do I keep doing this?" or "Why do I keep attracting the same relationship dynamics?" then this episode is for you. The Shift That Changes Everything! (You will want to hear this one!)

158 | The Shift That Changes Everything! (You will want to hear this one!) | Salarah Kacey Starre In this powerful episode, we'll explore one of the biggest subconscious patterns I see in my coaching practice: looking outside of ourselves for something that can only ever be found within. We'll dive into why we unknowingly seek validation from other people, why so many of us mistake the channel for the Source, and how this hidden pattern influences our relationships, boundaries, finances, business, self-worth and ability to manifest the life we truly desire. Why external validation can never create lasting peace. The subtle ways we unknowingly abandon ourselves. The difference between healthy connection and emotional dependence. Why your triggers are invitations for healing rather than signs that something is wrong. How to become rooted in the Creator instead of other people's opinions, approval or responses.A simple yet profound practice to help you reconnect with your true Source whenever life feels uncertain. If you've been doing the inner work but still find yourself caught in cycles of overthinking, people-pleasing, seeking reassurance or feeling emotionally shaken by other people's behaviour, this episode may reveal the missing piece.
