    Injury-riddled Oilers within reach of the Pacific Division title

    It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today’s podcast, I talked about the Oilers' recent run of games, the first few games for our new friends, a tough luck run of injuries, and much more. I kicked off this week's episode by diving right into the Oilers talk, starting with Connor McDavid's unbelievable heater that he's on right now. As much as we're lucky to watch Connor's brilliance nightly, seeing him take over games over the last little while has been a true pleasure. I also touched on Evan Bouchard's Norris bid and how fascinating the whiplash can be with him if a game goes off the rails, as it did against Utah. Yet, even with the rollercoaster that has been the 2025-26 season, the Oilers still have a very real chance to get their first division win since 1987. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about fake spring before closing out the podcast with another round of voicemails.     It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today’s podcast, I talked about the Oilers' trades at the deadline, the first few games for our new friends, a tough luck run of injuries, and much more. I kicked off this week's episode with a quick recap of our Nation Vacation to Vegas, then moved on to the horrible world of reality TV dating shows that I love so much. Did that transition make any sense? No. But this is my show, and I can do what I want. Turning the podcast to the Oilers, it's hard not to be excited about this team right now. Our boys are playing their best hockey of the season at the most important time of the year, and it's almost amazing to watch, given how sideways things were going even a few weeks ago. To say that this season has been a rollercoaster would be the understatement of a lifetime.     Oilers start life without Leon Draisaitl

    It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today’s podcast, I talked about the Oilers' trades at the deadline, the first few games for our new friends, a tough luck run of injuries, and much more. I kicked off this week's episode with the obvious devastating news that Leon Draisaitl will miss the remainder of the regular season with an undisclosed lower-body injury. Needless to say, this is not ideal. Not only are the Oilers locked into a fight for their playoff lives, but now they have to do it without their second-best player? Yikes. The good news is that Draisaitl's teammates have responded beautifully over the ~5 periods he's been out of the lineup. Instead of folding their hand after losing a star player, the Oilers went out and found ways to win two massive games that propelled them into first place in the Pacific Division.     Oilers start the road trip with two big wins, but lost three key pieces

    It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today’s podcast, I talked about the Oilers' trades at the deadline, the first few games for our new friends, a tough luck run of injuries, and much more. I kicked off this week's episode with a look at the Oilers' games since the NHL Trade Deadline. Now that our new friends have had three games each under their belts (kinda), I wanted to offer my first take on how they've done so far. Spoiler: I've been impressed. Of course, it can't all be good news around here, can it? Last night in Colorado, the Oilers picked up a win in a very intense game, but lost a trio of players in the process. Why can't we have nice things? Even with the men down, I'd be lying if I said the Kool-Aid wasn't going down a little smoother after beating both Vegas and Colorado.     Oilers trade for Connor Murphy as the NHL Trade Deadline looms

    It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today’s podcast, I talked about the Oilers' trading for Connor Murphy, the NHL Trade deadline, defensive/goaltending woes, and much more. I kicked off this week's episode with a look at the NHL Trade Deadline and how the Oilers got started early by moving a 2nd round pick to Chicago in exchange for Connor Murphy. Known as a shutdown d-man, the expectation is that Murphy will come in and help stabilize the back end. And with the insanely tough schedule the Oilers have on deck, they'll need all the help they can get. Sticking with the trade deadline, I also looked at some of the other rumours and noise surrounding the team right now, and offered my take on how likely any of these moves are to happen. Will I be right? Never. Will I guess anyway? Absolutely.     The Oilers are back with plenty of work ahead of them

    It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today’s podcast, I talked about the Oilers' return to the ice, the gold medal loss, the upcoming NHL trade deadline, and much more. I kicked off this week's episode with a look back at the gold medal game and how the heartbreak of losing on both the men's and women's sides will last for a minute. While both games were certainly exciting, it's unfortunate that Canada fell in OT on both occasions. Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, the boys kick off the stretch drive of their schedule tonight in Anaheim, which means a whole different flavour of stress is on deck for the fanbase. While the winter games were certainly intense, no one has forgotten the Oilers' struggles leading into the break, and time is running out on whether they can turn the ship around.
