The quiet side of farming: Breaking the silence on farmer wellbeing

To mark Mind Your Head Week, today, we’re opening up an important and often difficult conversation — the challenges of farming alone, and the mental health angle of this. Farming can be one of the most rewarding jobs in the world, but it can also be incredibly isolating and stressful. Long hours, financial pressures, unpredictable weather, and the responsibility of running a business often fall on just one set of shoulders. In this episode, we’ll explore what it really means to face those challenges, break down the stigma around talking about mental health, and share some powerful personal stories. We’ll also look at practical ways to manage stress and highlight the support that’s out there for farmers, their families, and rural communities. Joining host Peter Green are Emma O’Sullivan, founder of the DPJ Foundation — a charity dedicated to supporting mental health in agriculture — and Cornish farmer James Warwick.
