Can I Be a Digital Minimalist in 2026? | Monday Advice

Back in 2019, Cal published one of the first books arguing that we rethink our personal relationship with online tools. Can his advice still work in an age of TikTok and ChatGPT? In today’s episode, Cal dives deep into the r/DigitalMinimalism sub-reddit to see what advice contemporary digital minimalists are following and offers his own thoughts and recommendations.    Below are the questions covered in today's episode (with their timestamps). Fable Ban Reversed + Dr. Dana Suskind on Parenting With A.I. + Prediction Market Drama

This week, the Commerce Department lifted its restrictions on Anthropic’s powerful A.I. models, Claude Mythos and Claude Fable. We dissect why the government took such a hands-on approach in the first place, how the restriction on the OpenAI model GPT 5.6 is likely to resolve and what, if anything, this tells us about A.I. competition with China. Then, Dr. Dana Suskind, a pediatric surgeon and the author of the forthcoming book “Human Raised,” stops by to discuss a framework she has developed to help parents make informed decisions about what kinds of A.I. products are safe for children. And finally, we introduce a new segment about prediction markets: Against All Odds. Guest: Dr. Dana Suskind, founder and co-director of the TMW Center for Early Learning + Public Health at the University of Chicago and author of the forthcoming book “Human Raised: Nurturing Connection, Curiosity and Lifelong Learning in the Age of A.I.”   Additional Reading: U.S. Lifts Restrictions on Anthropic’s Most Powerful A.I. Why The Best Software Engineers Are Solving Code Review Bottlenecks Now

AI generates 10x more code, but your senior engineers still review it by hand and it's burning them out. Even Google admits code review is now the bottleneck nobody knows how to solve. Florian Buetow, AI engineer at Xebia, has been running experiments to eliminate the human from the review loop entirely, and what he found changes where engineers should focus their effort. In this episode, we cover: Why "stop doing code reviews" is a serious answer (and what replaces them)The guardrails that gave the most value: Semgrep rules, architectural unit tests, and stop hooksWhy your harness matters more than the modelHow Amazon and Google police AI-generated code with policiesAI burnout, cognitive debt, and "cognitive surrender": what stays your responsibilityStep one for adopting agentic software engineering in your team this weekWhether you're an individual developer drowning in AI-generated PRs or driving AI adoption across a large engineering org, you'll leave with concrete experiments to run. The Walt Disney Company

The Walt Disney Company is the most successful enterprise ever created for monetizing human nostalgia. Today it’s the king of global entertainment, holding the intellectual property rights to the childhood memories of billions of people (including, likely, all of you) and is a reliable, predictable profitable business. But it didn’t start that way. During Walt’s era, Disney operated like an unhinged moonshot factory, blowing its finances on one seemingly crazy project after another, like the very first feature-length animated film or a theme park inspired by Walt's fascination with model trains (spoiler: Disneyland). Walt’s relentless ambition to bet the company over and over again not only created some of the most monumental artistic achievements of the 20th century (Snow White, Fantasia, Disney Imagineering), but also resulted in the accidental invention of the modern “flywheel” business model. In this episode, we tell the story of the ultimate marriage of art, commerce, and engineering — The Walt Disney Company: Walt's Era. Fable is Back: Here's What You Should Try First

Fable 5 is officially returning after export controls were lifted, but the rollout comes with new guardrails, lingering policy questions, and a short window of subsidized access. NLW breaks down what changed, what to watch for, and why Fable’s biggest value may be in strategy, hard technical problems, and writing with clear standards. In the headlines: OpenAI’s inference cost push, Base44’s new model, AWS’s forward-deployed AI unit, Claude Tag for Teams, and SpaceX’s Memphis data center backlash. • Google Part II: Alphabet

    26/08/2025

    Google Part II: Alphabet

In its first six years from 1998 to 2004, Google built one of the greatest products of all time (and certainly the greatest business of all time) with Search. Then in its next six years from 2005 to 2011, Google built seven (!) more billion+ user products: Gmail, Maps, Drive and Docs, YouTube, Chrome, Android, and Photos — all either started from scratch internally or acquired as startups that were still in their infancy. This six-year period of wild innovation STILL stands unmatched in technology history… no other tech company counts more than four billion+ user products in its portfolio total. And of course, this “Google 2.0” era culminated in the transformation of the very company itself into Alphabet. So the question we answer today is… how did they do it?? And why? What was the strategy that led a once “pure play” search company into such far flung fields as email, mapping, funny cat videos and operating systems? We unpack the brilliant (and sometimes accidental) strategies behind each product, the simultaneous three-front war Google fought against Microsoft, Apple, and Facebook, and the spectacular failure of Google Plus that nearly destroyed the company's culture — before ultimately setting the stage for both Alphabet and the AI revolution to come. Update: when you finish, check out our Google Part III episode, "The AI Company"!
