Strigoi were believed to be the dead who returned to harm the living. Not strangers. Not creatures from distant places. Family members, neighbors, people who had only recently been buried. In this episode of 4 Ever Paranormal, we explore the folklore of Strigoi as it was lived, not romanticized. We talk about the two types, the dead known as Strigoi Morti and the living believed to carry the condition, Strigoi Vii. We look at the kinds of deaths that were thought to create risk, why certain graves were treated differently, and the extreme measures villagers believed were necessary to stop the dead from returning. We examine the repeating patterns that made people act. Illness following a funeral. Exhaustion that settled into the same household. Harm that stayed close to the grave instead of spreading outward. It puts Van Meter into a broader context by comparing it to other winged-entity sightings from places as disparate as Chicago and West Virginia, discussing why these encounters so often happened not deep in wildness but near towns, homes, and altered landscapes.
