Good Film Hunting

Tummy Twins Media

Good Film Hunting (GFH) is a movie channel built around one simple question: is this movie worth watching? Gary and Andy don’t do lectures, scorecards, or film school breakdowns. We watch the movie, talk it out, follow the conversation where it naturally goes, and give you an honest take — the good, the bad, and the “what were they thinking?” From cult classics and retro rewinds to new releases, flops, and forgotten curiosities, GFH is about reactions, perspectives, and the kind of movie talk you’d have with friends after the credits roll. No yelling. No hot-take nonsense. Just real conversation, differing opinions, a few laughs, and a clear answer at the end: should you watch it, or skip it? If you like movies and like talking about movies, you’re in the right place.

Episode 205 - An American Werewolf in London (1981) - Still Got Bite? - Good Film Hunting Retro Rewind Review

When two American backpackers decide to take a leisurely stroll through the English countryside, they discover that the locals are unfriendly, the pubs have terrible customer service, and the wildlife is downright murderous. This week on Good Film Hunting, we're revisiting An American Werewolf in London, John Landis's 1981 horror-comedy starring David Naughton, Griffin Dunne, and Jenny Agutter. After a vicious attack on the Yorkshire moors, one traveler ends up dead while the other discovers that surviving might actually be worse. With gruesome practical effects, pitch-black humor, and possibly the worst vacation itinerary in cinematic history, we're asking whether this legendary creature feature still has some bite, or if 45 years later, it's finally time to put this old dog down. #AnAmericanWerewolfInLondon #GoodFilmHunting #RetroRewind #JohnLandis #DavidNaughton #GriffinDunne #JennyAgutter #RickBaker #WerewolfMovies #HorrorComedy #ClassicHorror #80sHorror #PracticalEffects #HorrorMovieReview #CultHorror Release DetailsTitle: An American Werewolf in London Year: 1981 Director: John Landis Writer: John Landis Stars: David Naughton, Jenny Agutter, Griffin Dunne, John Woodvine Running Time: 97 minutes Country: United Kingdom / United States U.S. Release: August 21, 1981, Universal Pictures Rating: R Genre: Horror / Comedy Other Notable ProjectsJohn Landis | Director & WriterLandis was coming off an incredible run with National Lampoon's Animal House (1978) and The Blues Brothers (1980), and would later direct Trading Places (1983), Coming to America (1988), and Michael Jackson's Thriller (1983). What makes Werewolf fascinating is that Landis wrote the original screenplay back in 1969, long before his comedy successes gave him the clout to make it. Studios reportedly struggled with its combination of genuinely disturbing horror and outrageous humor. David Naughton | David KesslerBefore becoming a werewolf, Naughton was best known for his Dr Pepper commercials and starring in the short-lived sitcom Makin' It (1979). He also recorded the show's disco theme song, which became a Billboard hit. His clean-cut, likable personality makes his transformation into a bloodthirsty monster particularly effective. The film became his signature role, although he later appeared in Hot Dog... The Movie (1984) and Midnight Madness (1980). Griffin Dunne | Jack GoodmanDunne later became widely recognized for Martin Scorsese's After Hours (1985), Who's That Girl (1987), and Practical Magic (1998). He also directed Addicted to Love (1997) and Practical Magic. His performance here is particularly memorable because Jack remains funny and conversational despite his increasingly horrifying physical condition. He's essentially the world's least reassuring travel companion. Jenny Agutter | Nurse Alex PriceAgutter was already established through Walkabout (1971), The Railway Children (1970), and Logan's Run (1976). She had also appeared in The Eagle Has Landed (1976). She later reached another generation of audiences as Sister Julienne in Call the Midwife and as a member of the World Security Council in The Avengers (2012). Her grounded performance provides an important emotional counterweight to the film's increasingly absurd horror. John Woodvine | Dr. HirschA veteran British character actor with extensive theater and television experience, Woodvine appeared in The Devils (1971) and later in Persuasion (1995). He gives the film some much-needed seriousness as a physician trying to make sense of David's increasingly bizarre condition. His character plays everything completely straight, which makes the surrounding insanity even more entertaining. Brian Glover | Chess PlayerGlover was a former professional wrestler turned actor who appeared in Kes (1969), Alien 3 (1992), and The Company of Wolves (1984). His imposing presence and unmistakable Yorkshire accent help make the Slaughtered Lamb pub sequence so uncomfortable. Few actors could make an innocent game of darts feel quite so threatening. Episode 203 - Trick or Treat (1986) - Back From the Dead - Good Film Hunting Retro Rewind Review

This week, we're cranking the volume to eleven, spinning some records backward, and discovering if heavy metal might actually be the devil's music as we revisit Trick or Treat. The 1986 heavy metal horror flick, directed by Charles Martin Smith and starring Marc Price, Tony Fields, and Lisa Orgolini, with some special cameo metal appearances. When a bullied teenage metalhead gets his hands on the final recording of his recently deceased rock idol, he discovers that playing it backward can summon more than a few hidden messages. But when his favorite musician returns from the dead with a seriously aggressive comeback tour, things get way out of hand. Nearly forty years later, does this headbanging horror classic still rock, or is it time to pull the plug? #GoodFilmHunting #TrickOrTreat #TrickOrTreat1986 #CharlesMartinSmith #MarcPrice #TonyFields #OzzyOsbourne #GeneSimmons #GlenMorgan #MichaelSnyder #HorrorMovies #HeavyMetalHorror #EightiesHorror #RetroRewind #CultHorror Release DetailsTitle: Trick or TreatYear: 1986 (not 1987)Director: Charles Martin SmithWriters: Rhet Topham, Michael S. He later directed Air Bud (1997), Dolphin Tale (2011), and A Dog's Way Home (2019). Quite a career trajectory from electrocuting teenagers with heavy metal to making heartwarming animal movies. Rhet Topham, Michael S. Murphey & Joel Soisson | WritersTopham originated the story, with Murphey and Soisson collaborating on the screenplay. Soisson later became associated with genre filmmaking, including Dracula 2000 and the Pulse remake. Interestingly, future The X-Files creative partners Glen Morgan and James Wong contributed uncredited rewrites. Morgan even appears in the movie as Eddie's friend Roger, years before helping shape one of television's most influential paranormal series. Marc Price | Eddie WeinbauerBest known as the nerdy Skippy Handelman on Family Ties, Price makes an interesting choice for a rebellious, heavy-metal-loving outcast. Rather than completely abandoning his sitcom persona, he gives Eddie the same awkward vulnerability, except this time the teenager's favorite musician is an actual supernatural threat. Tony Fields | Sammi CurrFields was a professional dancer, appearing in music videos and working with Michael Jackson, including Beat It and Thriller. His dancing background helps explain Sammi's theatrical physicality. Rather than casting a genuine rock star, the filmmakers found someone who could move like a larger-than-life performer while embodying a supernatural villain. Doug Savant | Tim HaineyBefore becoming a familiar television face on Melrose Place and Desperate Housewives, Savant played Eddie's bullying tormentor. His character is practically a walking checklist of 1980s high-school-jock stereotypes, which makes his later career as a television leading man an entertaining contrast. Gene Simmons | NukeThe KISS bassist plays a rock radio DJ who gives Eddie the record that starts the supernatural nightmare. Simmons reportedly declined the role of Sammi Curr but accepted Nuke, partly because of his admiration for legendary DJ Wolfman Jack. Despite prominent advertising, his actual screen time is relatively limited. Ozzy Osbourne | Reverend Aaron GilstromIn one of the movie's best casting jokes, the Prince of Darkness plays a television evangelist condemning heavy metal as satanic corruption. Considering Ozzy spent much of the 1980s facing precisely those accusations, his casting is a wonderful bit of cultural trolling. This was also his theatrical film debut. Episode 202 - Remain Calm (2026) - Panic Is Fatal - Good Film Hunting Review

Some people handle stress with meditation, others medication, and apparently, some people …welllll, they just get eaten. This week, we're checking our anxiety and stuffing our faces with processed foods with Remain Calm, a horror-comedy short from writer-director Jake Lewis, starring Pauly Shore, Nick Swardson, and Doug Jones. When two convenience store employees working the night shift receive a warning about a mysterious creature that hunts anyone showing signs of fear or anxiety, keeping their cool becomes a matter of life and death. What did we think of this horror short film and did we want our 13 minutes back? Find out… well, now buuuuuuddy! #GoodFilmHunting #RemainCalm #RemainCalm2026 #TheLewisBrothers #JakeLewis #SamLewis #PaulyShore #NickSwardson #DougJones #KevinKeppy #HorrorComedy #HorrorShortFilm #CreatureFeature #IndieHorror #MovieReview Release DetailsTitle: Remain CalmYear: 2026Director: Jake LewisWriter: Jake Lewis; story by Jake Lewis and Sam LewisStars: Pauly Shore, Nick Swardson, Doug Jones, Kevin KeppyRunning time: Approximately 13 minutesCountry: United StatesRelease: October 12, 2026Platform: YouTube, The Lewis BrothersGenre: Horror / Comedy / Creature FeatureMPA rating: No official MPA rating verified Watch Remain Calm on YouTube Other Notable ProjectsJake Lewis | Director and WriterLewis previously directed The Court Jester, starring Pauly Shore as Richard Simmons. That project generated attention around Shore's dramatic transformation into the fitness personality. Remain Calm reunites the pair but takes them in a completely different direction, combining character comedy with creature horror. Sam Lewis | StorySam Lewis shares the original story credit with Jake Lewis, making this a genuine Lewis Brothers collaboration. The particularly clever premise gives them a simple rule around which to build both tension and comedy: the more frightened you become, the more danger you're in. Pauly Shore | MattBest known for '90s comedies like Encino Man, Son in Law and Bio-Dome, Shore became a defining personality of the MTV generation. His reunion with Lewis is particularly interesting because the director previously cast him as Richard Simmons. Here, Shore returns to broad comedy, but with considerably nastier consequences. Nick Swardson | ErwinSwardson is familiar from Grandma's Boy, Benchwarmers and his recurring role as Terry on Reno 911!. He's also a longtime Adam Sandler collaborator. His sarcastic, frequently exasperated comic persona is a particularly amusing choice for a movie where getting worked up can literally get you killed. Doug Jones | Grin ManJones is legendary for bringing strange creatures to life in films including Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy and The Shape of Water. He also played Saru on Star Trek: Discovery. Interestingly, he's not playing the central monster here. Instead, his unnervingly cheerful government representative delivers the warning that sets everything in motion. Kevin Keppy | Mr. FrettKeppy appeared as the Nightmare Mom in Smile and has established himself as a distinctive physical horror performer. His casting as Mr. Frett continues that tradition of using an actual performer, supported by creature effects, to give a monster its unsettling presence. Episode 201 - Buddy (2026) - Friendship Is Mandatory - Good Film Hunting Review

What happens when you take the cheerful, educational world of Barney & Friends, replace the purple dinosaur with an orange unicorn, and give him some serious anger management issues? You get Buddy (2026), a bizarre horror-comedy from director Casper Kelly, starring Cristin Milioti, Topher Grace, and Keegan-Michael Key. Inside a colorful children's television show, a group of kids sing, dance, and learn valuable lessons from their lovable host, Buddy. But when one child refuses to follow the rules, the smiles start to disappear, and it becomes clear that friendship isn't exactly optional. So, is Buddy a magical lesson in horror filmmaking, or does this unicorn deserve to be sent to the glue factory? #GoodFilmHunting #Buddy2026 #BuddyMovie #CasperKelly #JamieKing #CristinMilioti #TopherGrace #KeeganMichaelKey #MichaelShannon #PattonOswalt #DelaneyQuinn #HorrorComedy #HorrorMovies2026 #MovieReview #HorrorMovieReview Release DetailsTitle: BuddyYear: 2026Director: Casper KellyWriters: Casper Kelly, Jamie KingTop-billed stars: Cristin Milioti, Delaney Quinn, Topher Grace, Keegan-Michael Key, Michael Shannon, Patton OswaltRunning time: 96 minutes (some platforms list 95)Country: United StatesTheatrical release: August 28, 2026Distributor: Roadside Attractions / Saban FilmsDigital release: October 13, 2026Rating: R for bloody violence, some drug content, and languageGenre: Horror / Comedy / Fantasy Other Notable ProjectsCasper Kelly | Director and Co-WriterKelly is best known for the viral Adult Swim nightmare Too Many Cooks, the surreal Adult Swim Yule Log, and creating the unforgettable Cheddar Goblin commercial for Mandy. He's also worked on Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell. Buddy feels like a natural extension of his fascination with taking seemingly harmless television conventions and turning them into something deeply unsettling. Jamie King | Co-WriterKing's background includes independent filmmaking and the Slamdance screenwriting community. In an October 2026 interview, he cited Children of Men, The Big Lebowski, Her, and Rushmore among his favorite films. That's an interesting collection of influences for someone helping write a murderous-unicorn movie, but it suggests an appreciation for mixing absurdity with genuine emotion. Cristin Milioti | GraceKnown for How I Met Your Mother, Palm Springs, Made for Love, and her acclaimed performance as Sofia Falcone in The Penguin, Milioti has become particularly good at portraying people trapped in bizarre circumstances. She said she'd never read anything quite like Buddy, which is impressive considering some of her previous projects. Topher Grace | BenGrace broke through as Eric Forman on That '70s Show before appearing in Traffic, Spider-Man 3, Predators, and BlacKkKlansman. His easygoing, familiar screen persona makes him an interesting choice for a film where the apparently comforting and ordinary can become threatening. Keegan-Michael Key | BuddyOne half of Key & Peele, Key has also appeared in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Wonka, and Schmigadoon!. His energetic, exaggerated delivery is ideally suited to a children's television host, which makes it considerably more disturbing when that same relentlessly upbeat voice belongs to a controlling nightmare unicorn. Michael Shannon | WillieAn Oscar-nominated actor known for Revolutionary Road, Take Shelter, The Shape of Water, and playing General Zod in Man of Steel. Shannon has built a career playing intimidating, emotionally volatile characters. Casting that intensity into a world of talking puppets and children's entertainment is exactly the kind of absurd contrast this movie thrives on. Patton Oswalt | StrappyOswalt is known for Ratatouille, Young Adult, The King of Queens, and his stand-up comedy. He's also a longtime genre enthusiast, making his casting as the voice of a talking backpack especially fitting. Apparently, even school supplies need a recognizable Hollywood voice these days. Episode 199 - Ice Cream Man (2026) - Sweet or Sick? - Good Film Hunting Review

This week, we're screaming for ice cream, but you might want to check the ingredients before taking a lick! Eli Roth is serving up a double scoop of depravity with Ice Cream Man, his 2026 horror-comedy starring Ari Millen, Benjamin Byron Davis, and Karen Cliche. In the film, a mysterious ice cream vendor rolls into a peaceful suburban town & his irresistible frozen treats begin turning the neighborhood's children into homicidal maniacs. With a truck full of questionable desserts, a town full of murderous children, and a serving of Eli Roth's insanity, does Ice Cream Man deliver a deliciously disturbing treat, or is this one scoop of cinematic disappointment? #GoodFilmHunting #IceCreamMan #IceCreamMan2026 #EliRoth #NoahBelson #AriMillen #BenjaminByronDavis #KarenCliche #SarahAbbott #CharlieZeltzer #SnoopDogg #HorrorComedy #HorrorMovies #MovieReview #filmdiscussion Release DetailsTitle: Ice Cream Man (2026) Year: 2026 Director: Eli Roth Writers: Eli Roth and Noah Belson Top-Billed Stars: Ari Millen, Benjamin Byron Davis, Karen Cliche, Dylan Hawco, Sarah Abbott Running Time: 1 hour 26 minutes Country of Origin: United States, with production in Canada Official Release Date: August 7, 2026, theatrically through Iconic Events Releasing; digital release September 22, 2026 Rating: Not Rated (NR) Genre: Horror / Comedy Other Notable ProjectsEli Roth, Director and Co-Writer Roth established himself with Cabin Fever (2002) and Hostel (2005), helping popularize the extreme horror movement of the 2000s. He later directed The Green Inferno, Knock Knock, and Thanksgiving. Ice Cream Man is especially significant because it's the first feature from his own production company, The Horror Section, giving him the opportunity to make an unrated horror movie without the studio restrictions he encountered earlier in his career. Noah Belson, Co-Writer Belson and Roth have been friends since they were 12 years old and previously collaborated on the animated projects The Rotten Fruit and Chowdaheads. They originally wrote Ice Cream Man in 2003. What makes their collaboration interesting is that the story comes from the same adolescent sense of humor they've shared since childhood, only now they have the resources to turn their particularly warped ideas into a feature-length horror movie. Ari Millen Millen is best known for Orphan Black, where he played multiple male clones with distinctly different personalities. His ability to shift between charming, eccentric, and deeply unsettling makes him a particularly interesting choice for the title character. Here, he's playing a seemingly friendly ice cream vendor whose wholesome appearance conceals something considerably more sinister. Benjamin Byron Davis Davis is perhaps most recognizable to gamers as Dutch van der Linde in Red Dead Redemption 2, though his screen credits also include Roth's Borderlands. Davis and Roth had known each other for years, and Davis initially thought Roth had sent him the Ice Cream Man screenplay simply to get his opinion. He was surprised to learn that Roth actually wanted him to play the Priest. Karen Cliche Cliche has appeared in Mutant X, Flash Gordon, and Roth's Thanksgiving. Her involvement continues Roth's tendency to bring back familiar performers from his previous productions. Having already experienced his approach to combining outrageous violence with black comedy, she's returning to a director whose sense of humor is unlikely to be mistaken for restraint. Sarah Abbott Abbott has appeared in Black Mirror and Ginny & Georgia, establishing experience in both unsettling genre stories and grounded drama. She plays Lizzie in Ice Cream Man, joining the younger ensemble at the center of a movie that requires its child performers to navigate some exceptionally disturbing material. Eli Roth as Marty In addition to writing, directing, and producing, Roth plays Marty, the father of Jared, portrayed by Charlie Zeltzer. Roth has made appearances in several films, most memorably as Donny Donowitz, the Bear Jew, in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds. His decision to appear as a parent in a story about children turning against adults is especially interesting given how becoming a father influenced his revisions to the screenplay. About
