Black August: Why Fight for Black Freedom is Key to Fight for Socialism

Lital and Edward are joined by Jack and Brian from Chicago JBA to discuss why DSA must put the fight for black liberation front-and-center to advance working-class struggle today. We take up the age-old question "Why is DSA so white?" and make a pitch for a concrete plan to fight racist cop terror with the call to open police archives, as opposed to both colorblind economism and BLM liberalism. You can find the website of the Open Police Archives campaign here. They are @opa_now on X and @openpolicearchives on Instagram. They also have a YouTube page. The Chicago OPA Committee will be meeting this Saturday, August 15 at the Woodson Regional Library (9525 S Halstead) at 3:30pm. If you're in Chicago or the Midwest and can't attend in-person, there's also a Zoom call you can join. Find more information on the cases the OPA campaign is taking up, endorse the campaign and for all updated event information, check the OPA website. The Chicago branch of Just Break Already will be having it's first ever in-person get together on August 22nd. Register here if you'd like to attend! You can find all of our petitions, resolutions, statements, and everything else we've been up to at the Just Break Already linktree. Follow us on X and Instagram! We also have a YouTube page where we upload these episodes, too. Leave us a comment, we ready all of 'em! DSA: Which Side Are You On? Vote Working Class! Vote Sawant on August 4th!

Lital and Edward are joined by Summer and Em from Labor Militant and United front for a Workers Party to discuss Kshama Sawant's independent socialist campaign for Washington's 9th Congressional District. We do a deep dive into why every socialist should vote for Kshama, the dynamics within DSA and the broader left and why so many self-described socialists are sitting this race out (sectarianism!), where the working-class is at right now and why Kshama's dalliances with the Greens undermine her campaign. Since we recorded this episode, Kshama has endorsed Andre Easton's campaign in the Bronx, a positive development! You can find Labor Militant on X here and here on Instagram.  You can find United Front for a Workers Party here on X, here on Instagram, here on Facebook, and here on TikTok. To sign up for the August 1st phonebank for Kshama, the August 8th Socialist Town Hall in Seattle, or UFWP's August National Meeting, click here. If you'd like to hear more about the clown car of characters running against Kshama, check out UFWP's latest articles here. For background on the 2024 IAM strike at Boeing, check out these articles from Workers Vanguard. Also worth reading: a letter by Movement for Kshama, an initiative of UFWP that responds to Kshama's sectarianism, republished in Workers Vanguard. As always, you can follow the work of the Just Break Already Caucus at our linktree, where we post all of our statements, petitions, and resolutions. You can also follow us on X and Instagram. We're always looking to debate others on the DSA Left. If that describes you, shoot us a DM! We'd be happy to have you on. Send us Fan Mail

Labor Notes at a Dead End and How to Get a Fighting Labor Movement: Discussion with Elliot from COFTU and Chantelle from MCU & TM

Lital and Edward are joined by Elliot from the Committee for One Fighting Transit Union (COFTU) and Chantelle from the Maoist Communist Union (MCU) and Teamsters Mobilize (TM) to talk last month's Labor Notes conference. Both were part of a panel held the same weekend as Labor Notes, "A Militant Critique of Labor Notes: For a Fighting Workers Movement," and talk both their experiences on the job, at Labor Notes, and what strategy is needed to rebuild the labor movement in the United States. Not surprisingly, they don't see DSA's current labor strategy as being up to snuff. You can check out the panel Elliot and Chantelle participated in at Labor Notes here.  The Committee for One Fighting Transit Union's website can be found here and you can follow them on X and on Instagram. You can find the Maoist Communist Union on their website, on Instagram, and on YouTube. They also have a Telegram channel. Teamster's Mobilize can be found here on their website, as well as on Instagram. As always, the best way to follow the work of the Just Break Already Caucus is by taking a look at our Linktree, where we post all of our statements, resolutions, petitions, and everything else we've been up to lately.
