The local communities in Afghanistan live in compounds made of mud brick walls called colats. Safety on base in Afghanistan varied, with some installations having large perimeter walls and others being more exposed to potential threats. The barbershops on military installations in Afghanistan were run by locals and also employed third country nationals. Afghanistan has beautiful areas with rivers, lakes, and greenery, despite being known as a desert. Brad expresses his interest in visiting Afghanistan again in the future.
