Stuck in Hustle Mode 24/7? (7 Types of Rest to Finally Recharge Without the Guilt)

Some of us are so busy trying to build a life that we forget to actually live it. Today, Jay explores the hidden cost of hustle culture and why so many people are quietly exhausting themselves in the pursuit of success. He reflects on how productivity has become tied to self-worth, where being busy is mistaken for being valuable. Through honest insight, Jay unpacks the emotional drivers behind overworking, the fear of falling behind, the pressure to prove yourself, and the belief that rest must be earned. He challenges the obsession with constant performance, reminding us that a meaningful life cannot be built on depletion alone. Jay also reframes what real rest actually means. Beyond vacations or escape, he explains that true restoration must be woven into everyday life. He breaks down the seven types of rest people need, physical, mental, emotional, sensory, social, creative, and spiritual, and reveals how many of us are depleted in more than one. With clarity and compassion, Jay shows why scrolling and numbing aren’t real recovery, and encourages listeners to slow down and face what busyness often helps us avoid. In this episode you'll learn: How to Rest Without Guilt How to Protect Your Energy How to Build Healthy Work Rhythms How to Create Real Rest How to Break Free From Hustle Culture How to Be Present in Life Give yourself permission to slow down before life forces you to. Because success means very little if you’re too tired to experience it. Dhar Mann: Not Where You Want to Be Yet? (Follow THIS 5-Step Framework to Stop Overthinking and Finally Take Action)

Today Jay sits down with one of the world’s most influential digital storytellers, Dhar Mann, for a raw conversation about failure, identity, and resilience. Dhar opens up about growing up feeling caught between two worlds, battling loneliness, depression, and self-doubt, and how those painful experiences ultimately shaped his purpose. Together, they explore how our deepest wounds often become the message we’re here to share, and why real healing begins when we stop hiding who we are. Dhar also breaks down the mindset and systems that helped him turn his lowest moments into a global storytelling brand. He shares why success comes from repetition, failure, and emotional connection, not validation, and reveals the story behind the one video he almost didn’t post that changed everything. In this episode you'll learn: How to Keep Going After Rejection How to Find Confidence Through Consistency How to Build a Purpose-Driven Brand How to Stop Hiding Your Struggles How to Pivot When Life Changes How to Choose the Right Partner How to Create Success That Lasts Some of the most meaningful breakthroughs happen after seasons of rejection, loneliness, and uncertainty. Keep showing up, keep believing in your growth, and keep taking the next step forward even when no one else can see the vision yet. MALALA: The Story The World Hasn’t Heard Until Now

Today, Jay sits down with Malala Yousafzai to uncover the woman behind the global symbol of courage and education. From the very start, Jay sets the tone with an intention rooted in empathy, to help people not just know Malala, but understand her. Together, they revisit her extraordinary journey, from growing up in Pakistan’s Swat Valley under Taliban rule to surviving an assassination attempt at fifteen. Malala shares what it was like to wake up in a hospital far from home, and how she slowly began to realize that the world had already decided who she was before she could decide for herself. As the conversation unfolds, Malala opens up about the emotional aftermath of her survival, the years spent trying to live up to the image of bravery the world created for her while quietly struggling with fear, trauma, and loneliness. She reflects on how therapy helped her begin to process the pain she had long suppressed, and how rediscovering humor, friendship, and love became essential parts of her healing. Malala also talks about her marriage, her insecurities after the attack, and the importance of learning to love herself before fully believing that someone else could. Her honesty reveals a side rarely seen, that even those who inspire millions still wrestle with doubt and self-acceptance. Malala and Jay explore what courage truly means, not as a public act of heroism, but as a quiet, daily choice to keep going. She reflects on her mission to ensure education for every girl, the ongoing fight for women’s rights in Afghanistan, and how real change begins with local voices and global solidarity. Through her words, Malala reminds us that strength and softness can coexist, that healing is never linear, and that every person has the power to turn pain into purpose. In this interview, you'll learn: How to Stay Brave When You’re Afraid How to Heal From Trauma With Time and Therapy How to Find Yourself Beyond What the World Expects How to Rebuild Confidence After Losing It How to Create Change Through Education How to Love Yourself After Feeling Unworthy How to Redefine Courage in Everyday Life How to Keep Hope Alive in Dark Times How to Be the Voice for Those Who Can’t Speak No matter what you’ve been through, your story isn’t over, it’s still being written every single day. Healing doesn’t happen all at once, and courage isn’t about never breaking down; it’s about finding the strength to rise again, even when you feel unsure. The Neuroscience of Identity: Why You Keep Repeating the Same Patterns | Emily McDonald

Your brain is making choices for you before you even realize it. Neuroscientist Emily McDonald, known as Emonthebrain, studies how your identity, nervous system, and subconscious programming quietly run the show. Most people think they're choosing. Research shows the neural pattern of a decision lights up in a brain scan before you're consciously aware you've made it. That's the gap Emily spent years learning to close. She grew up with clinical depression, ADHD, anxiety, and a victim mindset baked in by illness and circumstance. She wasn't looking for a life philosophy. She switched her major to neuroscience because it sounded cool and got a 100 on her first exam. What she found changed everything. The science she uncovered is this: your brain holds a model of who you are in the default mode network. It uses that model to predict your thoughts, behaviors, and choices on autopilot. If the model says you're someone who struggles with money, or fails at relationships, or can't focus, your nervous system quietly steers you toward confirming that story. The identity is the destiny. Shifting it means more than positive thinking. It means identity anchors, environment, the people around you, the habits encoded in your body. Emily calls it identity shifting, and she coaches people through it by asking a deceptively simple question: do you have a to-do list or a to-be list? Most people have never sat down to ask who they're becoming, only what they're accomplishing. This conversation will rewire the way you think about why you keep falling back into old patterns, how affirmations can actually work against you, and what neuroscience actually says about the law of attraction. Emily's Website Emily's Instagram Mindcraft Coaching Program In this episode you will: Understand how the default mode network stores your identity and drives your choices below conscious awareness Learn the identity shifting process Emily uses with coaching clients to break subconscious patterns holding them back Discover why affirmations backfire and how to use forward motion and dopamine to make them actually work Explore the neuroscience behind the law of attraction and why you attract what your nervous system is wired for, not what you want Understand how ADHD medication, dopamine dependency, and addiction cycles form in the brain and what it takes to rewire them For more information go to https://lewishowes.com/1935 For more Greatness text PODCAST to +1 (614) 350-3960 Follow The Daily Motivation for essential highlights from The School of Greatness More SOG episodes we think you’ll love: Dr Joe Dispenza Dr. K Dr. Sue Morter TOPICS Emily McDonald, neuroscience, identity shifting, default mode network, neuroplasticity, law of attraction, subconscious reprogramming, ADHD, dopamine, limiting beliefs, nervous system alignment, victim mindset, Emonthebrain Get more from Lewis!  Get my New York Times Bestselling book, Make Money Easy! How to Heal, Let Go, and Find Faith | Dr. Thema Bryant

When the world tells you who you should be, how do you come home to your authentic self? Can you be both stressed and blessed at the same time, or must you choose one? How do we find room for joy and celebration while facing collective suffering and oppression?   In this episode of A Really Good Cry, Radhi sits down with Dr. Thema Bryant, a trauma recovery expert and 2023 President of the American Psychological Association (APA), for a deeply reflective conversation on identity, faith, and the process of "Homecoming."   Dr. Bryant shares her personal journey growing up with ministers who practiced liberation theology, which is about the community and the collective, not just the individual and God. This led her to discover liberation psychology, focusing on context and systems to empower everyone.    She also discusses how her childhood home was like her "first time working at like a crisis hotline" and how moving to Liberia, West Africa, gave her confidence from seeing people who looked like her in positions of authority. Together, they explore how stress, trauma, and oppression disconnect us from ourselves, the meaning of her podcast and book Homecoming, and how to cultivate joy while working for justice.   In this episode, you’ll learn:   Why "Homecoming" is about liberation and coming back to yourself, even for the first time How healthy relationships and spaces are required for you to be able to come back to yourself The difference between coping with trauma and healing from it Why avoidance in therapy prevents healing and the value of trauma-focused and somatic therapy. How liberation psychology recognizes that systems (like media and educational systems) affect us, beyond just personal issues. The connection between the desire for control (or "busy-ness") and past trauma or anxiety. The importance of self-care practices like quiet time to stay grounded and not be easily moved by others' opinions. That true worthiness and sacredness are not tied to performance. The difference between "God-fearing" and believing in a loving God    This episode is a powerful reminder that while stress and oppression may disconnect us, liberation is possible. Healing isn't about becoming someone new; it's about remembering, accepting, and appreciating who you were before the world told you who to be. You hold the special sauce within you. Dr. Lisa Miller: Feeling Lost, Stuck or Anxious? (Use THIS Spiritual Framework to Finally Move Forward With Clarity)

What if the hardest moments in your life weren’t there to break you, but were actually pointing you toward who you’re meant to be? Today, Jay sits down with renowned psychologist, Columbia professor, and bestselling author Dr. Lisa Miller to explore the powerful intersection of science and spirituality. Together, they unpack one of the most transformative ideas of our time: that spirituality is not reserved for the religious or the enlightened, it is an innate human capacity wired into every one of us. Through groundbreaking neuroscience, Dr. Lisa reveals how our brains are biologically designed to perceive that we are loved, guided, and never truly alone. Jay and Lisa invite us into a new way of living, one where anxiety, heartbreak, disappointment, and uncertainty are no longer viewed as signs that we’ve lost our way, but as invitations into deeper spiritual awakening. Throughout the episode, Jay and Lisa share profoundly personal reflections on life’s “red doors” and “yellow doors”, the moments when what we desperately wanted fell apart, only to lead us somewhere far more aligned, meaningful, and expansive than we could have imagined. Through intimate stories, spiritual practices, and powerful meditations, they explore how intuition, synchronicity, and inner knowing can guide us toward our true path when we finally learn to listen. Jay opens up about protecting his purpose, discovering his calling beyond societal expectations, and the courage it takes to trust the quiet voice within. Lisa beautifully reframes suffering not as punishment or failure, but as the very catalyst that awakens us to greater love, wisdom, and purpose. This episode is a reminder that some of the greatest breakthroughs in life begin with the moments that break us open. In this episode you'll learn: How to Listen to Your Inner Wisdom How to Turn Pain Into Spiritual Growth How to Recognize Signs the Universe Is Sending You How to Feel Guided When Life Feels Uncertain How to Stop Ignoring Your Intuition How to Stay Spiritual in a Busy, Modern World How to Strengthen Your Spiritual Awareness Daily How to Navigate Depression Through a Spiritual Lens Maybe the answers you’ve been searching for aren’t outside of you, but in the quiet voice you’ve been too busy, too hurt, or too afraid to trust.
