EXTRA CREDIT: Crime, Chaos, and a Very Bad Game of UNO

Dina starts things off with a quick update on the case of the eleven year old boy who recently shot his father following an argument about a Nintendo Switch. She then follows it up with another tragic story out of Tipp City, Ohio, where a former worship leader and previous American Idol hopeful has been charged in the murder of his wife. To break up the heavier stories, Charlotte brings a few true crime cases that are strange enough they might actually have you giggling. Dina then brings things back into gruesome territory with a story involving an inmate who has inflicted some very serious injuries on himself, yet has still been deemed mentally fit to stand trial. Next up is a case involving an UNO game that got completely out of hand. And we mean way out of hand. As always, we wrap up Extra Credit with the latest entry in Dina’s Strange and Unusual Death. Peter Stumpp - The Werewolf of Bedburg

This week on Grim Curriculum, we travel back to 16th century Germany to examine the chilling legend of Peter Stumpp, better known as the “Werewolf of Bedburg.” A man known by several different names, Stumpp was accused of a catalogue of horrifying crimes. According to the accounts of the time, he was not only a serial killer and cannibal, but a man who could transform into a wolf and stalk the countryside in search of victims. His arrest in 1590 led to a brutal confession under torture and an execution that was meant to serve as a warning to others. But centuries later, historians are left wondering how much of the story is fact, and how much may have been shaped by fear, folklore, and the intense religious tensions of the era. Was Peter Stumpp truly the monstrous figure the authorities claimed, or was he something else entirely, a man caught in the crosshairs of superstition and persecution? The Exorcism of Anneliese Michel - Part 2

This week on Grim Curriculum, we return to the case of Anneliese Michel for Part Two. In this episode, we examine the exorcisms she endured, the physical toll they took, and the devastating final chapter of her life. What happened behind closed doors was not a single ritual, but a prolonged series of sanctioned rites carried out while her health continued to deteriorate. We then turn to the courtroom, where her parents and the priests involved were forced to answer for their decisions. The trial raised difficult questions about faith, medical responsibility, and where belief must give way to reason. We also explore a troubling modern reality, exorcisms are not relics of the past. In fact, they are reported to be more prevalent today than ever before. This is a case that leaves us angry, frustrated, and heartbroken. We have no doubt it will do the same for you. The Exorcism of Anneliese Michel - Part 1

This week on Grim Curriculum, we step into a case that sits at the crossroads of faith, fear, and fatal conviction, the exorcism of Anneliese Michel. In 1970s West Germany, a young woman’s suffering was interpreted not as illness, but as possession. As her condition worsened, those closest to her became convinced that what they were witnessing was not medical, but demonic. Rituals were performed. Prayers were repeated with increasing desperation. And intervention came not from medical professionals, but from the Church. What unfolded behind closed doors would shock a nation and eventually the world and leave a haunting question in everyone's minds, when belief overrides reason, who pays the price? EVEN MORE Lesser know Cryptids

This week on Grim Curriculum, we’re taking a break from the heavy stuff and diving back into one of our favourite palette cleanser topics, even more lesser known cryptids. These episodes give us the perfect excuse to explore the stranger, sillier, and more mysterious corners of folklore without the usual grim weight. From eerie encounters to downright bizarre sightings, this week’s lineup is full of creatures that do not get nearly enough attention. We’re chatting about the Skrimsl from Iceland, the unsettling Mantis Man from New Jersey, and the legendary Sheepsquatch said to roam West Virginia and the wider Appalachia. Dina brings one from her own neck of the woods with Šumske Dekle, while Charlotte has a new personal favourite, the bizarre mystery of the UB-85 Monstrosity. To wrap it all up, we cover a cryptid that is no longer cryptic at all, but you’ll have to listen to find out who it is. EXTRA CREDIT: Skiing Witches, Atomic Martinis and Gruesome Crimes

This week on Extra Credit, we’re bouncing between updates, history, and stories that sound too strange to be real. We start with an update from a previous Extra Credit episode. A Michigan woman who pretended to be a registered nurse has now been sentenced to prison time. We break down the sentence and want to hear from you. Was the punishment fair, too harsh, or not nearly enough? Dina then brings a developing and particularly gruesome case out of Derby in the UK. A woman has been accused of killing her girlfriend using a horse figurine. As shocking as that sounds, it is somehow not the most unbelievable part of the story. Charlotte lightens the mood with a look at a winter tradition from Switzerland involving skiing witches. We dig into the folklore behind the celebration and the original witch whose legend inspired the tradition in the first place. Dina follows with Nuclear Tourism 101. Believe it or not, one of the more popular activities in 1950s Las Vegas was watching nuclear detonations, martini in hand. What happens in Vegas might stay in Vegas, but the atomic fallout certainly did not. Charlotte then takes us through some famous riots from history that began for reasons so bizarre they almost sound fictional. As always, we wrap things up with a Strange and Unusual Death. This week’s story is truly astonishing and we are saying nothing more. You will just have to listen. Wanna see us do some ghost hunting? The Last Man Hanged in Alberta - Robert Raymond Cook

Robert Raymond Cook is remembered as the last man executed in Alberta, and one of the most controversial figures in Canadian criminal history. In 1959, Cook was arrested for the murder of his 7 family members but only convicted of one; the murder of his father, Raymond Cook, whose body was found shot inside the family home in Stettler, Alberta. The case against Cook was largely circumstantial, built on inconsistencies in his statements, forensic evidence that was later questioned, and a confession he claimed was coerced after prolonged police interrogation. Cook maintained his innocence throughout his trial and right up to his execution. Despite appeals and growing public unease about the reliability of the evidence, after less than a year on death row, he was hanged on November 30, 1960 at the Fort Saskatchewan jail. He was just 22 years old.
