A Quality Interruption

James Kislingbury

Cruz Flores and James Kislingbury love movies and love yelling at each other about them. Whether they're good, bad, involve lesbian vampires, or a good old fashioned vigilante shooting spree, we'll be there, over thinking all of it.

#492 Chandler's THE LONGEST DAY (1962, dir. Annakin, Martin, and Wicki)

EPISODE #492-- We fail to resist the urge to return to World War II with the epic, polyphonic invasion picture, THE LONGEST DAY (1962, dir. et al). It's a big one. It's a fun one. . . the episode, not the war. The war was bad. We probably talk about that a bit during the episode. But bad for its necessity, not bad in the way that so many people on Instagram seem to think that fighting the Nazis was a bad idea. It's crazy how many of those dudes are just out there now and allowed to exist. You'd think a guy named Mark Zuckerberg would be a little more sensitive about Naziism running rampant on his platform, but no. Anyways, what was I talking about? Oh, yeah: THE LONGEST DAY. We also chat about the 1967 TV series THE PRISONER (which is available on the Criterion Channel, currently), APOLLO 13, 1966's WATARI, and the original BEETLEJUICE. #488 Poe's YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES (1985, dir. Barry Levinson)

EPISODE #489-- We're back on our BS with the pivotal action-adventure film YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES (1985) directed by Barry Levinson (The Diner guy? really? Okay. I guess so). It's a nice return to form, as we do love England's most famous, non-Masterpiece Theater-based detective. We also recommend, as per usual, a bunch of other bangers, including (and it's a lot of movies, so get a pen out) THE SHEEP DETECTIVES (2026, dir. Kyle Balda), NIGHT MOVES (1975, dir. Arthur Penn), PUTNEY SWOPE (1969, dir. Robert Downey Sr.), ACROSS 110th STREET (1972, dir. Barry Shear), THE DARJEELING LIMITED (2008, dir. Wes Anderson), and THE GENERAL (1926, dir. Buster Keaton). Like I said, it's a wild one. Oh, also PREDATOR: BADLANDS (2025, dir. Tratchenberg). LINKS-- Join the cause at Patreon.com/Quality.
