JOURNAL PROMPT God has given me these good and perfect gifts:   PRAYER TO GROW GENEROSITY Dear Father, Grow in me an abundance mindset and a satisfied heart. I know that I will face challenges in both while living in this broken world. But as someone who has every reason to overflow with thanksgiving, I praise you for your good gifts. I praise you for being the “changeless Father of heavenly lights,” as opposed to being the impetuous god of shifting shadows. We cannot predict or control you but we can completely trust you to always be good and faithful. I praise you for the gospel of your grace - the gift of Jesus, who lived and died in our place to make us yours. In him we have every spiritual blessing as a gift of your outrageous generosity. I thank you because of the many specific gifts given to me and my family. You have given us______________________. Your generosity in big things and small knows no limits. Thank you. Father, these are just a few of the many, many gifts that come down from you all the time. In Jesus name, Amen.

(Stop, Rest, Delight, and Worship) --------------------------------------- JOURNAL PROMPT Where do I find delight?  REFLECTION In Matthew 22:1-14, Jesus told a parable about a gracious King who threw a wedding feast for his son. A wedding feast was an exciting event that usually lasted several days. Delicious food was shared, memories were made, and celebration filled the air. To be invited to a wedding feast was an honor. To be invited to a royal wedding feast would be the honor of a lifetime. The King sent out the first invites to the feast, and for some reason, the first group of invited guests didn’t want to come. They seemed disinterested and preoccupied with life. They made excuses and they missed the opportunity to feast with the King and His son. Since the King wanted people to share his joy, he sent his servants to the city's edge to find anyone that would come. These people were grateful for the invite and accepted the King’s offer. It was a delight to attend the banquet. You too have been invited to the feast!  Journal about how this makes you feel.

Explore more with Tim Keller. https://gospelinlife.com/sermon/the-rest-giver/  JOURNAL PROMPT What prevents me from getting deeper rest?  REFLECTION The movie Chariots of Fire depicts the battle between Harold Abrams and Eric Liddell. The two fastest men of that time, they raced against each other at the 1924 Paris Olympics.  In the movie, Harold Abrams says, “I'm running the 100 yard dash because when that gun goes off I have 10 seconds to justify myself.” He worked hard to prove his worth and feel good about who he was.  Eric Liddell says, “God made me fast and when I run I feel His pleasure.” He did not work to earn this pleasure. He worked to celebrate the God who loved him, delighted in him, and gave him a good gift.  One man ran to earn his identity and value. The other man ran because he knew his identity and value. Two men working hard. One man was always weary even when resting. The other man was always resting even when working.  Which do you want to be?

They grow in rest.” - Mark Buchanan, The Holy Wild   “A great benefit of Sabbath keeping is that we learn to let God take care of us - not by becoming passive and lazy, but in the freedom of giving up our feeble attempts to be God in our own lives.” - Marva J. Dawn, Keeping the Sabbath Wholly   PRAYER Lord, reorient my life so that I can enter Sabbath rest. May your Spirit guide me and empower me to surrender my time, my work, and my priorities so that I will desire the things that God desires above all. Amen.
