009- Stephanie Thornton, War Radio Wonderwoman

Our most recent episode dives further into the history of radio, and particularly the use of radio as a political tool. History buff and friend Stephanie Thornton shares her research on Radio Free Europe, the U.S. radio program broadcasting to the Soviet bloc during the Cold War. We explore what made this audio project unique in its process and aims, and which aspects of it translate into political media today. Please email us at ontheearwaves@gmail.com with your thoughts on the topic of government media efforts--how does radio function where you are from? Where do you get your news? See our website for more details and the link to Stephanie's thesis: ontheearwaves.com

008- The Trouble With Favorites, 2015 Edition

**Note: We're sorry for the background noise and conversation..! The responsibility falls entirely on the not-quite-soundproof door to our glamorous studio a.k.a. Lisa's bedroom.** We've been on a long hiatus, and are back and better than ever. Going forward, episodes will be released every other Tuesday, with a bigger focus on interviews. We'll take regular hiatuses every 5-10 episodes(with fair warning, we promise!) in order to regroup, review feedback, and keep getting better. Our first episode of 2016 looks back on the extraordinary audio media that came out of 2015. We try (and mostly fail) to pick one favorite in the categories of audiobook, podcast episode, new podcast, song, and album, with plentiful samples of each. We'll be making a Spotify playlist and adding to Lisa's podcast collection list (on her website) for additional favorites, so keep an eye out. What were your favorites? Do you disagree with ours? Did we miss anything? Email us at ontheearwaves@gmail.com and find us at our website, ontheearwaves.com.

007 - Sad Songs For Audio Lovers

After a two week break in episodes, we're back with a somewhat glum episode on songs that make us cry. We start with a discussion of the "sad girl" trope, before diving into our own sad song picks. Then, we include our listeners in the conversation-- many of you wrote in with your favorite sad songs picks! Those are compiled in a playlist on our brand new spotify account! Follow us at ontheearwaves. Do you have songs to add? Thoughts on the sad girl trope? Anything else? Let us know at ontheearwaves@gmail.com.

006- Uptalk With A Side Of Vocal Fries

We've finally arrived at the subject of the radio voice! Our co-host this week is Alice Nicholls: friend of the show, linguist, and future speech language pathologist. With her guidance, we cover everything from up-talk to vocal fry, and explore the specific ways in which the radio voice is a gendered phenomenon. Questions? Comments? Anything to add? Let us know at ontheearwaves@gmail.com.
