Think On These Things – Episode 26

In episode 24 of the podcast we explained the worry cycle and how easy it is to get stuck there. Our brains aren’t built to be empty so we can’t not think about something. Jesus told us that doesn’t work. If we don’t fill our house, meaning in this case our brains, with better thoughts, then those negative demonic thoughts and lies will just come racing back in worse than before. So once we pass our worries along to God because they’re above our pay grade we need to put our focus back on things that are in our area of responsibility. Fortunately we don’t have to guess what those things are. Paul told us what we should be thinking about. Trapped in the Worry Cycle – Episode 24

For far to many believers the worry cycle is an all to painful reality. Even for those who know to cast their cares on God, the familiar cycle of worry, prayer, peace… worry, prayer, peace… worry, prayer, peace… never seems to end. Fortunately God provides a way for us to break the worry cycle and leave our worries behind for good. You Can’t Not Think About It – Episode 23

As we continue to explore the challenges of worry in our lives and the prescription Paul gave us in Philippians chapter 4, we should take a moment to acknowledge one reality about how our brains are wired as human beings. Our human minds are engineered by God to remember things, not to forget them. It’s impossible for us to simply not think about something. So if all Paul told us in that passage in Philippians 4 was “don’t worry” then we’d be in a bad way. Because even with prayer and being blanketed with God’s peace, the thought is still hanging there in our brains. Turn Godward Instead of Inward – Episode 22

We continue our discussion of how not to worry by looking at where we find peace. In Philippians 4:6-9 the Apostle Paul tells us that we should pray and pass all our worries on up to God while we thank him for all he has done for us. Then God will give us a supernatural peace in place of the worry we were tempted to hold onto. That supernatural peace is so foreign to most people that they may think we’re nuts when we don’t freak out like they expect during the storms of life. Worry is one of those things that most all of us do in varying degrees. For some it’s just an occasional thing. But for many worry can be a debilitating monster that rampages through their lives leaving destruction in its wake. Our bodies are not designed to deal with the stress of worry. It’s not something we were ever meant to have to deal with. Fortunately the Bible lays out a solution for us to eliminate worry from our lives. We just need to discover that scriptural way to process things that cause us to worry and then apply that process to our lives.
