    The Value of a Gift

    How do we value a gift? In "The Value of a Gift," preached on Pastor Appreciation Sunday, Brother Daniel Howard asks what actually makes a gift worth anything, and answers it from four passages: the widow and her two mites in Mark 12, Barnabas selling his land for the church in Acts 4, Ananias and Sapphira holding part of theirs back in Acts 5, and the Samaritan who stopped on the Jericho road in Luke 10. The argument is that a gift's worth is not the price the world puts on it but three things together: a real need, a real cost to the giver, and a gift that is actually received, and that the cost is paid in time, nearness and strength at least as often as it is paid in money. It ends at the greatest gift of all, the Son God gave out of love and not out of abundance, and asks whether you have received that gift or only admired it.     Get Ready to Walk on Water

    What if Jesus does not calm the storm you are in? In "Get Ready to Walk on Water," Pastor Brad Lindsey preaches from Matthew 14, where Jesus sends His disciples into a storm He knew was coming and then comes to them walking on the sea. He sets the common expectation that every storm will be calmed against what Peter actually asked for, which was permission to come to Jesus on the water, and he shows from Hebrews 12 that only the kingdom which cannot be shaken will remain. The call is to stop praying only for the storm to stop and instead step out of the boat, take the power God gives, and reach past yourself to the people around you.     Man's Dual Nature

    Why do we struggle to do what is right, even after coming to Christ? In "Man's Dual Nature," Pastor Brad Lindsey explores the struggle between fleshly desires and life governed by the Spirit.     How Big Is Your God?

    Joseph: Healing the Past Without Becoming Bitter

    What do you do with a wound so deep that the person who caused it may never make it right? In “Joseph: Healing the Past Without Becoming Bitter,” Pastor Brad Lindsey walks through the life of Joseph to show that forgiveness and reconciliation are two different things. Scripture warns that unresolved anger gives the devil a foothold and lets a root of bitterness spring up, so the heart has to be settled before any relationship can be restored. Joseph resolved the past, confronted his brothers, tested whether they had truly changed, and then held to the larger perspective: what they meant for evil, God meant for good.
