Keeping Time S10, E4: Octavio Garcia, Gerald Charles

One of the most famous names in watch circles, Octavio Garcia is today the Creative Director for Gerald Charles. Previously, the American-born designer was Creative Director for Audemars Piguet during the all-important brand-building period from 2002-2015. Responsible for some of the most ground-breaking and sought after Royal Oak Offshore designs, including the famed series inspired by Formula 1 drivers such as Juan Pablo Montoya and Rubens Barichello as well as expanding the Millenary collection with extraordinary creations such as the Pianoforte, inspired by and paying homage to Quincy Jones.  Join us as we take a deep dive and discuss the extraordinary career of the Chicago-born designer. From the earlier days working with Jean-Claude Biver to the most logical step in creating his own brand, Gorilla Watches. Finally to today, and possibly the most natural progression, taking on design responsibilities for the brand created by the Maestro himself, Gérald Charles Genta, the designer who gave the world the Royal Oak for Audemars Piguet and the Nautilus for Patek Philippe as well as the Ingenieur for IWC and countless other enduring designs. Today the "Maestro" case design, penned by the late designer himself in the early 2000's, is like a gift to the talented Octavio Garcia. The unique and charismatic case provides a inviting challenge for creative design. Listen in as we discuss the latest creation unveiled at Watches and Wonders, a world first Perpetual Calendar with asymetrical movement, which perfectly compliments the unique shape of the Maestro case for an ideally balanced design. Listen in as we learn about the intricacies of the design's layout and the truly unique approach to the movement layout itself.  This unique episode provides a wonderful window into the creative approach and inspiration that drives Octavio Garcia as he continues to pen the incredible designs that will delight and provide timeless watches for today and generations in the future.  Thank you, as always, for downloading and listening to Keeping Time Podcast. Keeping Time S10, E3: Emmanuel Jutier, Artime Watches

One of 6 partners in a true horological supergroup, we are thrilled to welcome Emmanuel Jutier as he joins us on Keeping Time Podcast.  Artime Créations was founded approx 20 years ago with some of the most talented individuals in the industry. The background of the members includes Renaud et Papi (Audemars Piguet, Richard Mille etc), Gruebel & Forsey, Breguet, Philippe Dufour, FP Journe, Minerva and Tag Heuer. The depth of knowledge within this collective is unequaled in watchmaking. The company continues today as an important supplier. However, this group of talented creators decided to also create their own brand, ARTIME. Released just a couple of years ago, Artime showed their first watch, ART01, a remarkable Tourbillon with a unique, patented approach to suspending the open-worked movement within the case, no base-plate per se. This year in Geneve, the brand caught the attention of Jeremy and Melissa (Oster Jewelers) with the remarkable and stunningly beautiful ART02. Oster Jewelers is proud to be one of a handful of retailers worldwide selected to represent Artime.  Listen in as we learn and discover what makes this assembly of talent unprecedented. We discuss the partners and the incredible knowledge and history that is carried forward to the Artime brand. We discuss the philosophical approach that is evident with the first 2 creations. We also go in-depth into the details, construction and level of technical sophistication combined with traditional finishing at the highest level that is clearly evident with every rare and special piece created in the Artime workshops.  As always we hope you enjoy this captivating conversation and, if not already familiar with ARTIME, that you enjoy discovering a true gem at the very highest level of the watchmaking world. Thank you, as always, for downloading and listening to Keeping Time Podcast. The ultimate compliment is if you would share Keeping Time with your friends and, of course, if you could take a moment to post a favorable review on your chosen podcast platform. Keeping Time S9, E8: Martin Klocke, Sherpa Watches

How does a mechanical watch put out good vibes to the universe with every passing second? Listen in to the latest episode to find out! Our guest is the charming CEO of Sherpa Watches, Martin Klocke. I met Martin recently at Geneve Watch Days and the brand made quite an impression. Capturing authentic vintage vibes with superbly well executed dials in a true "Super-Compressor" case, the Sherpa line strikes quite a chord with a unique identity as a micro-brand out of Germany.  Listen in as we hear the full story of the inspiration behind this storied historical watch, first unveiled by Enicar in 1956 following a Swiss Expedition to Mt Everest. Enicar's SeaPearl watches proved to be incredibly reliable and suitable for extreme environments both deep underwater and as high as mankind would dare to explore, leading to the Sherpa rebranding. Martin shares with us his personal story of discovery of the famed Sherpa watches and his fascination with the 70 year old watches.  Today's faithful recreations provided many challenges to produce. It is wonderful to hear Martin talk about the production of the modern pieces and the technical brilliance of the original concept combined with further refinements. Only producing approximately 100 watches per year, today's Sherpa is a rare example of a passion project that celebrates technical brilliance, distinctive visual appeal and the rare achievement of faithfully respecting an original design with proportions that prove to be timeless. Combine all this with the world's first "Mantramatic" watch and there is far more than meets the eye with this incredibly compelling and fascinating wristwatch for the ages.  We hope that you enjoy Keeping Time podcast with host Jeremy Oster and co-host Doug Hoyt. If you could take a moment to rate, review as well as share with like-minded watch enthusiast friends it truly helps others to discover Keeping Time podcast. Keeping Time S9, E6: Tariff Impact on the Swiss Watch Industry

This episode is a little different. We are addressing the situation in the Swiss watch industry with a focus on an explanation of the tariffs imposed this year. The implications for global trade are quite huge with few countries affected as greatly as Switzerland. Despite a population of approximately 9 million, Switzerland is one of the most important investors into the US economy; from pharmaceuticals to chocolate production and financial services. Yet huge tariffs were directed at Switzerland which affects their export market. One of Switzerland's most famous and most desirable exports is of course luxury watchmaking. This is the reason you all listen to Keeping Time.  Today we are going to discuss in-depth the impact of the tariffs on the US watch market; how it impacts retailers, manufacturers, distributors (and agents) and of course the end-users who purchase these objects of mechanical beauty. We delve into the mechanics of how the tariffs actually work from an import perspective. We then welcome a couple of friends of the podcast who bring different perspectives to the conversation.  Michael Margolis initially joins us to discuss the US impact from the perspective of a US importing agent as well as how it can impact a consumer who decides to purchase in Europe or abroad. Later we are joined by Scott Rosen who discusses the impact of the USA tariffs in the Swiss industry from the perspective of the Swiss.  This in-depth conversation should be insightful for all watch collectors/enthusiasts alike and also those in the industry. Of course, everything today is a moving target so as changes occur the information presented on this episode may be outdated quickly. However, at this time, this is an invaluable conversation with real insight into the current situation created by the price of gold, exchange rate and tariffs.
