    Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: ‘Carry-On’ carries the weekend

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of December 13, 2024. The best thing to watch is actually streaming on Netflix: "Carry-On" is a super-tense action thriller reminiscent of  "Die Hard 2” and even has a Christmas angle. Also streaming, DisneyPlus’s "Dream Productions" takes us back to the imaginative world of  "Inside Out," in shorts that Andy may or may not have liked more than "Inside Out 2.”  And in in-theater options this week, there is "Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim," an anime-style telling of some LOTR backstory, and "Kraven The Hunter," another dud from Sony's Marvel universe.  The brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing nerdy with a goal to publish a weekly "What to Watch on the Weekend" minisodes, taken from KSL-TV's Friday segment, and two deep-dives a month on shows, creative works, artists, local events, and other fandom topics.  Based in the beautiful beehive state, Fan Effect celebrates Utah's unique fan culture as it has been declared The Nerdiest State in America by TIME, and is hosted by KSL Movie Show's Andy Farnsworth and KSL Podcasts' KellieAnn Halvorsen.   Listen regularly on your favorite platform, at kslnewsradio.com, kslpodcasts.com, or on the KSL NewsRadio App. Join the conversation and get the latest 'nerdly' news on Facebook @FanEffectShow. Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: There are outstanding performances in ‘The Order’

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of December 6, 2024.  5, 2024. This week’s movie roundup starts of strong with Jude Law and Nicholas Hoult turning in outstanding performances in "The Order." One of the better-animated movies of the year, "Flow" follows a kitty trying to survive a catastrophic flood and has absolutely no dialogue whatsoever. On streaming, a couple of Netflix movies might catch your interest, including "Mary," which imagines what *could* have happened with the mother of Jesus. It's a Nativity Action Movie… kind of. And in a sweet story, the animated movie "That Christmas” follows a once-in-a-generation snowstorm on Christmas Eve in a small English seaside town, creating new opportunities for fun and human connection. “Wicked Part 1” defies these fangirls’ expectations

“Wicked: Part 1” is now in theaters, and the Broadway musical spectacular turned silver-screen sensation has defied our producer/cohost KellieAnn Halvorsen’s expectations. On this episode of Fan Effect, she is joined by her fellow fangirl Katelynn VanBuren to explore all things Oz and how the various book, stage, and movie adaptations come together beautifully in this latest on-screen offering.  While Andy Farnsworth gave his spoiler-free opinion on KSL’s Movie Show, we are getting into the glorious weeds of the various production similarities and restrictions, behind-the-scenes details, and interwoven themes from both “The Complete Collection Wizard of OZ” series and the 1995 book “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.” So brace yourself for some high-flying fangirling on this extended exploration of the Yellow Brick Road.  The brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing nerdy with a goal to publish a weekly "What to Watch on the Weekend" minisodes taken from KSL-TV's Friday segment, and two deep-dives a month on shows, creative works, artists, local events, and other fandom topics. Fan Effect is sponsored by Megaplex Theatres, Utah's premiere movie entertainment company.

  4. Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: ‘Wicked Part 1’ is a fun and stunningly beautiful adaptation of the stage production

    NOV 25

Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: ‘Wicked Part 1’ is a fun and stunningly beautiful adaptation of the stage production

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of November 22, 2024." Wicked" (Part 1) is a stunningly beautiful, colorful, fun, and vibrant cinematographic adaption of the stage production. While the John M. Chu film might be long, it doesn’t seem like it, and it’s not the only solid movie this week. “Wicked” faces of with “Gladiator II,” which is not as enjoyable as the first “Gladiator,” but satisfying nonetheless.  On Apple TV+, get a feel for what it was like in London during one portion of World War II in the movie "Blitz." And over on Netflix, there is a charming animated musical movie "Spellbound.” The brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing nerdy with a goal to publish a weekly "What to Watch on the Weekend" minisodes, taken from KSL-TV's Friday segment, and two deep-dives a month on shows, creative works, artists, local events, and other fandom topics. 5. Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: Is ‘Red One” the one to see this weekend?

    NOV 18

Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: Is ‘Red One” the one to see this weekend?

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of November 15, 2024. While Andy had high hopes for “Red One,” he has doubts it is 'THE ONE' to see this weekend. The real favorite of the week was “A Real Pain,” starring Jesse Eisenberg & Kieran Culkin, which actually won the screenwriting award at this year's Sundance Film Festival. And on streaming, there is a very good adaption of the spy novel "The Day of the Jackal" on Peacock, a new season of “Silo” (producer KellieAnn’s pick) on AppleTV+, and you can't miss out on the latest episodes of "Cobra Kai" on Netflix. 6. Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: ‘The Best Christmas Pageant Ever’ is a delightful holiday family film

    NOV 12

Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: ‘The Best Christmas Pageant Ever’ is a delightful holiday family film

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of November 8,  2024. Starting off, "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" is a delightful adaptation of a book and an excellent family film to kick off the holiday season. Andy actually sat down with Producers Chet Thomas and Darin McDaniel of the show in a Movie Show Digital Extra, which you can find at this link.  Also in theaters is the action suspense movie called "Elevation," which is basically “A Quiet Place” only if the creatures can't go above 8000 ft instead of not being able to see. And, a Luc Besson co-written action movie called "Weekend in Taipei" starring Luke Evans, Sung Kang, and a Taiwanese action star named Gwei Lun-Me, has some fun action pieces. As for streaming, if you like Pentatonix but don't want to hear them sing very much, you could watch "Meet Me Next Christmas" on Netflix, where Christina Milian is hoping to get some tickets to meet a potential beau at the concert on Christmas Eve, but perhaps she'll realize that everything she was looking for may have been right in front of her the whole time! Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: Tom Hanks and Robin Wright are back in ‘Here’

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of Nov 1, 2024. If you want a hit of nostalgia, Robert Zemeckis, Tom Hanks, and Robin Wright are back in theaters with  the generational film "Here." Also in theaters is a unique faith-based fighting film called “The Carpenter,” which mixes a bunch of things that you wouldn't usually put together but actually worked! The pick-of-the-week goes to the DisneyPlus Streaming documentary “Music by John Williams,” which offers two hours of goosebump-inducing music as you bask in the man's supreme musical talent . Also on streaming, Netflix’s season two of the drama “The Diplomat” brings back Keri Russell as the U.S. Ambassador to London trying to work through delicate geo-political situations while investigating a bombing that hit her husband.
