If you want a hit of nostalgia, Robert Zemeckis, Tom Hanks, and Robin Wright are back in theaters with  the generational film "Here." Also in theaters is a unique faith-based fighting film called “The Carpenter,” which mixes a bunch of things that you wouldn't usually put together but actually worked! The pick-of-the-week goes to the DisneyPlus Streaming documentary “Music by John Williams,” which offers two hours of goosebump-inducing music as you bask in the man's supreme musical talent . Also on streaming, Netflix’s season two of the drama “The Diplomat” brings back Keri Russell as the U.S. Ambassador to London trying to work through delicate geo-political situations while investigating a bombing that hit her husband. 2. Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ isn’t a waltz but reasonably entertaining

Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ isn’t a waltz but reasonably entertaining

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of October 25, 2024. The weekend's big movie is “Venom: The Last Dance.” For which Andy had to set aside his objections to a Spider-Man Universe film without Spider-Man to admit it was reasonably entertaining. What was more than entertaining is “Conclave,” featuring Ralph Fiennes and the rest of the Cardinals choosing a new Pope; this is one of the best movies of the year, which is no surprise as it is based off of a best-selling fiction novel. Also in theaters is the quirky horror romantic comedy "Your Monster." And on streaming, Season 3 of the Netflix “The Lincoln Lawyer” is another fine entry into one of the best legal dramas on TV.  The brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing nerdy with a goal to publish a weekly "What to Watch on the Weekend" minisodes, taken from KSL-TV's Friday segment, and two deep-dives a month on shows, creative works, artists, local events, and other fandom topics.  Based in the beautiful beehive state, Fan Effect celebrates Utah's unique fan culture as it has been declared The Nerdiest State in America by TIME, and is hosted by KSL Movie Show's Andy Farnsworth and KSL Podcasts' KellieAnn Halvorsen.   Listen regularly on your favorite platform, at kslnewsradio.com, kslpodcasts.com, or on the KSL NewsRadio App. Join the conversation and get the latest 'nerdly' news on Facebook @FanEffectShow. 3. Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: Bring the tissues for ‘We Live In Time’

Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: Bring the tissues for ‘We Live In Time’

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of October 18, 2024.  Bring the tissues for "We Live in Time” and enjoy the rich chemistry between Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh. Michael Keaton stars in another film this year, this time playing a father trying to repair a strained relationship with his daughter in  “Goodrich.” The film highlights the versatility of Keaton and the strong performance of Mila Kunis, who plays his daughter.  Amazon Prime’s “Brothers” reminds Andy of comedies before streaming, with Peter Dinklage and Josh Brolin playing criminal twins and enjoyable scene-stealing performances by Glenn Close and Brendan Fraser. And Anna Kendrick's directorial debut in Netflix’s “Woman of the Hour” has some tense scenes and takes great care not to glorify the actual serial killer story it is based on. Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: ‘Saturday Night’ will please SNL fans

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of October 12, 2024. Three separate and unique movies are highlighted this week, led by ”Saturday Night," a movie about the lead-up to the first episode of Saturday Night Live nearly 50 years ago, which fans of SNL will enjoy. Next is a non-Church-produced movie, "Six Days In August," which is about the succession of Brigham Young as leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after the death of Joseph Smith. Andy even has a deep dive  “Movie Show Extra” episode with the writer/director of this movie, as well as multiple actors from the film. Finally, one of the most unique documentaries he has ever seen is "Piece By Piece," the story of musician Pharrell Williams...told completely in LEGO animation!  It's inventive, creative, imaginative, and one of Andy's Top 5  animated movies of the year. OCT 7

Andy's KSL-TV #WhatToWatch: ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’ is not the sequel for Andy Farnsworth

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of October 10, 2024. While the highly anticipated sequel "Joker: Folie a Deux" finally arrived in theaters, it was just not something Andy enjoyed, especially “With nary a Batman to be found." But the family film "Monster Summer" was enjoyable, even with some dark, scary-adjacent themes. Andy’s favorite was “White Bird," an emotionally engaging story about the power of kindness and actively choosing it. And we can’t forget streaming options. On Netflix, there's also a bit of Halloween-related "fun" that's new...a 30-minute cartoon short called "The Bad Guys: Haunted Heist" that your kids will like better than you will. Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of September 27, 2024. “The Wild Robot” may be the best-animated movie of the year and is this week's Big Movie of the Week; it can make you laugh, cry, think, and feel for nearly two hours, and it's worth your family's time! For streaming, George Clooney and Brad Pitt charm their way through a messy situation in the Apple TV+ movie, "Wolfs." On Netflix,  "Nobody Wants This” stars Kristen Bell as a "shiksa" who falls for a younger Rabbi played by Adam Brody is easily the funniest and most well-written comedy series in a while.
