I am new to healthy living and listened to a few podcasts. I like the energy and positive vibe Justine & Caroline have! I just listened to the birth control episodes and that’s what left a really sour taste in my mouth.
I know it’s a controversial topic & I appreciate their willingness to speak about it. They said multiple times they were just here to educate, but not judge. However, all the facts they presented were so one-sided. It was all about how birth control negatively impacts the body. Which may be factual, but you can’t really say you’re educating without presenting both sides.
There are cases where women react negatively to birth control, and we should talk about that. But what about people who have great experiences with it? People who NEED it to help regulate heavy and painful periods? What about acne? There is impact on the body, but only presenting the side of “you could get cancer, blood clots, depression” and not the positive other side, is not really education, and can really make people who rely on birth control feel really marginalized and bad about themselves.
What about providing support for people who are on it and love it? Or who are on it because they need to be? What are some ways they can maybe find less “harmful” brands? I’ve personally had friends who had terrible experiences with birth control, but that’s because they were on the wrong type. Once they found one that worked well, it was great. Talking about these other experiences, rather than just focusing on people who had the worst experiences, would really present an informed and helpful discussion.
Again, I really appreciate the willingness to talk about these issues, but I really wish the conversation was more educational, presenting both sides with their expertise. Unfortunately it’s making me question the validity of some of the other episodes, as much as I want to keep believing in them.
