Hosted by blogger and author Kimberley A. Johnson.'Start Me Up' isn't just any other podcast. I'm willing to call BS when I see it and I don't care if it's coming from a rightwinger or a self-professed bleedingheart liberal. I'm not always politically correct and I'm a huge fan of loose talk and salty language. Sarcasm is guaranteed and political correctness will be at a minimum. This podcast is for anyone who wants to listen to compelling conversations with a variety of guests about current events and controversial topics.

Start Me Up: Author Ann Werner

Start Me Up: Author Ann Werner

My mother Ann Werner's latest book, The Augurs, is the second in a series of dystopian thrillers. Book one, The Melt, was released in 2020 and it's about a deadly virus that wipes out most of the earth's population leaving the few that remain to start over and build anew.
We discuss Ann's book and then we talk politics and why there's good reason to believe Dems will expand the Senate and keep House! Yes, we can!

    Start Me Up: Joe Dempsey

    Start Me Up: Joe Dempsey

Joe Dempsey is an average American who can take complicated news stories and break them down into easy-to-understand sound bites.
Joe breaks down one of his fascinating threads about an agreement made by Dems and the GOP in the early 1980s about election intimidation. That agreement expired in 2017 and we will see how it plays out in 2022. We also discussed David Hogg's messaging as well as the importance of personal responsibility and showing up in November.

Start Me Up: Democratic Strategist Simon Rosenberg

Start Me Up: Democratic Strategist Simon Rosenberg

Simon Rosenberg was the lead strategist for the DCCC when Democrats flipped the House in 2018. He is the founder of New Democrat Network (NDN.org) and the New Policy Institute, a liberal think tank and advocacy group based in Washington DC.
We discussed the many reasons Democrats have to be optimistic about the November midterms. Simon breaks it down with polling as well as facts and sources to back it all up. Republicans made a big miscalculation and it's backfiring. Democrats have the advantage now and it's important for voters to take on a winning attitude.

The San Antonio, TX native can best be described as a scholar and creative genius; due in part to rearing from both his father, a biochemist, and his mother, an award-winning blues singer.
We talked about his fascinating life, the homelessness problem in Los Angeles and then we talked about politics, the rise of white supremacy, where the country is headed and what to be hopeful about.

Great interview. Whew😅I needed that big glass of optimism… followed with solid reasons and data. We (Dems) REALLY need more of that!

Thank you for the Kirk Acevedo episode

Couldn’t place the name with the face, now that I can, (thanks to the goof), Kirk Acevedo is a favorite actor of mine. My recollection is that I first became aware of Kirk in Band of Brothers, though what solidified my respect for his skills was Oz.
Thank you Kimberley for a great conversation.
