This isn't based on a true story, IT IS A TRUE STORY. AA uses a classic documentary interview style with the actual people who did this along with actors who portray them in the movie.

The series ran for 4 seasons from 2001 to 2004 until it was miraculously brought back in 2017, to give the show the proper conclusion it deserved.
