    The Root Problem | 1 Corinthians 1:26 – 2:5

September 27th, 2026 Pastor Chad McDonald The creativity of man is impressive. Just think of the technological advances over the last 30 years. Technology has shifted from slow, wired, dial-up connections and bulky desktop machines to an era of pocket-sized supercomputers and instantaneous global cloud-based communication. That’s just technology. Think of the scientific and medical advances. We have produced so much and made so many advances. It’s funny how impressed we can become with ourselves. The one area where we have not progressed in is human behavior. We have not progressed in morality. We can control so much, but we cannot control human behavior. Even the wisest, most wealthy and most intelligent find themselves demented, despaired and degraded in their own behavior. That is why the focus and heart of Paul’s preaching is Christ coming to deal with the root problem. The root problem of man is the sinfulness of the human heart, and no amount of scientific, technological or philosophical advances can touch this root problem. The only reality that can touch that problem is Christ and Him crucified. We must always be clear on this: only the gospel has the power to change the human heart. Only the gospel has the power to change a sick world and society. Christ and Him crucified is the message that God has empowered us by His Spirit to proclaim and bear witness to in this fallen world. As we continue our study in 1 Corinthians, this will again be the focus of Paul’s instruction. Read ahead if you have the chance. Our text will be 1 Corinthians 1:26 – 2:5. Don’t miss worship this weekend. Make plans and begin to prepare your heart for corporate worship. It’s going to be a great weekend of worship

The Foolishness of the Cross | 1 Corinthians 1:10-25

September 20th, 2026 Pastor Chad McDonald Imagine gathering the history faculty of any major state university and explaining to them that there is no way to understand history without a Bible. Beyond that, there is no way to understand the Bible until they understand that the cross is the pinnacle of God’s revelation of Himself to man. In other words, there is no way to truly understand history without understanding the cross of Christ. His death is watershed moment of all human history. They would probably laugh you out of the room and call you names. This was Paul’s message. He walks into Corinth, the center of philosophy and intellectualism, and does not try to impress his audience with his rhetoric, intellect, or philosophic notions. He simply preaches about the death of the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul does this for a clear and straightforward reason: so that their faith would not rest in the wisdom of men, but the power of God displayed in the death of Christ. 1 Corinthians 1:10-25 gives us a clear reminder of why we must never back away from preaching the cross of Christ. It may be foolishness to a lost and dying world but to those of us who are being saved, it is the power of God. I pray that you will join us this weekend for worship. Make plans today to attend. Weekend worship is a Friday decision. Make the decision today. Bring a friend. Invite a co-worker or neighbor. I’ll see you at church!

    Press On | Philippians 3

September 6th, 2026 Pastor Chad McDonald Next week we will begin walking through Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians. (Actually, it was his second letter to them, but more on that next week). The church at Corinth was a deeply troubled church. Paul wrote more to them than to any other church because they had more issues. In many ways, you could describe them as the “anti-church.” Before we begin that study, I thought it would be appropriate to consider a passage written to Paul’s favorite church, the church at Philippi. Philippians is my favorite book of the New Testament, and at the heart of this letter is a passage that I believe most clearly defines the Christian life (Philippians 3:1-16). What does it mean to follow Christ? What does it look like for a person to trust Christ and grow in Christ? What we will find from Paul is that, while each of our journeys will have different nuances, the essence and attitude of true Christian believers should be the same. There will obviously be differences in our individual journeys, but the heart of what it means to follow Christ should not be different from one believer to another. In fact, Paul says that if we have a different attitude, the Lord will correct us. I pray you will join us this weekend. Pastor Luke will fill pulpit for me on Saturday night and lead you through a study of John chapter one. I got a preview of his message this week. It’s a powerful message! Whether you attend Saturday night or Sunday morning, it will be a great weekend of worship at LBC.

Faithfulness Begins at Home | Malachi 2:10-16

August 16th, 2026 Pastor Chad McDonald The health of your marriage affects the health of your relationship with Christ (1 Peter 3:7). What you do in your house affects what you do in God’s house. There are few areas more important to the heart of God than the health of the marriages among His people. God ordained marriage. It is central to our gospel mission. In fact, according to Paul in Ephesians 5, your marriage should be a mini-parable of the gospel and the love relationship that exists between Christ and the church. In Psalm 127 we find that healthy marriages lead to a healthy and secure nation. As God continues to bring charges against the nation in Malachi, He continues with leadership and more specifically, with husbands and fathers. Apparently, Jewish men and even priests had divorced their Jewish wives and married the daughters of a foreign god. In this way they were doubly-charged. They had committed both idolatry and adultery in the eyes of God, and God brings them into the burning light of His presence. He makes them feel the weight of His charges against them because He loved them too much to leave them in this condition. I hope and pray you will join us as we walk through Malachi 2:10-16 this weekend. I encourage you to read ahead and prepare your heart for worship. We might not deal with the same specific issue, but the principles are the same. “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” — 1 Timothy 3:16
