The Work Podcast Episode 49 - Long Gevity

Longevity has been on my mind a lot lately. This past weekend was the Arnold Classic. You look at those guys on the IFBB stage — absolutely massive human beings — and there’s no denying the level of discipline and work that goes into that. But it also highlights something important: enhanced bodybuilding and natural bodybuilding are essentially two completely different sports. When people say “the highest level,” they’re usually referring to the Mr. Olympia or Arnold stage. And sure, if you’re competing in enhanced bodybuilding, that’s the top of the mountain. But I’m not playing that sport. I’m competing in natural bodybuilding, and the highest level there is winning Worlds. Two totally different arenas, two totally different priorities. And when you start looking at it through the lens of longevity, things get even clearer. I had a client compete at the Arnold this weekend — Janis — who is 70 years old. Natural athlete. Keto. She went out there and broke world records in the squat, bench, deadlift, and total. At seventy years old. That, to me, is winning on a whole different level. Most people at 70 can barely carry groceries. They’re using walkers and canes. Meanwhile she’s pulling over 300 pounds off the floor and planning to keep doing it for as long as she possibly can. That’s the kind of outcome I want to stack the chips in favor of. Because the question isn’t just how high you can climb for a brief moment. The real question is how long you can perform at a high level. Natural bodybuilding, done properly, gives you that runway. When you prioritize nutrition, progressive overload, recovery, and discipline, you’re building a system that supports your body for decades. You can keep improving year after year. You don’t have to peak in your 20s and then watch everything fall apart. I plan on competing for a long time. I’ve got my sights set on winning Worlds in 2027, but whether that happens or not, the cool thing about natural bodybuilding is that you can keep showing up. You can keep getting better. You can keep pushing the needle forward. That’s the long game. We also talked about some of the biggest mistakes people make with fat loss. The internet loves to throw around the advice “eat less, move more.” And technically, sure — that’s not wrong. But practically speaking, it often misses the bigger picture. A lot of people who hit plateaus aren’t eating too much. They’re actually chronically under-eating. They’re running on fumes, walking 30,000 steps a day, barely consuming a thousand calories, and wondering why their body refuses to drop more weight. At that point the metabolism is suppressed. Hormones are downregulated. Recovery is shot. That’s why I’m such a big believer in structured building and cutting phases. When you spend time in a surplus and allow your metabolism to ramp up, you create more runway for fat loss later. When you finally drop calories, your body actually responds. You can’t stay in a deficit forever. You have to play the long game — just like everything else. The Tribe is gearing up for a three-day fast, and we’ve got a bunch of conferences and travel coming up this year. Meatstock, Low Carb for Better Health, Hack Your Health — lots of opportunities to connect with the community and keep spreading the message. At the end of the day, everything comes back to the same principle. What can you do today to stack the chips in your favor so that you can operate at a high level for the longest possible time? That’s the game I’m playing. And honestly, I think it’s the only game worth playing. The Work Podcast Episode 48 - Retreat Recap

This episode is mostly a recap of the recent Savage Retreat in Marble Falls, Texas, and honestly it was one of those weekends that reminds me why we do this in the first place. We had about ten people staying together on a big ranch property with longhorns, wide open land, pickleball courts, and a ton of great food. It was a relaxed environment where everyone could get to know each other, share ideas, and connect. Friday night we cooked a big meal, got everyone settled in, and Jamie gave a presentation about mindset and preparing mentally to do hard things before we tackled the Tough Mudder the next morning. Saturday was all about the Tough Mudder, and that ended up being a highlight of the whole weekend. The course had walls, rope climbs, mud trenches, monkey bars, electrified obstacles, and a massive climb that forced everyone to work together. Nobody got left behind. People were helping each other over obstacles, facing fears, and pushing through discomfort as a team. That’s really the whole point of these retreats — creating an environment where people can challenge themselves physically and mentally while surrounded by like-minded people. After the race we cleaned up, ate a mountain of brisket, and wrapped the night with a deeper mindset presentation about identity, goals, and building the life you actually want. On the business side, we’re celebrating eight years of Keto Brick, which is pretty wild to think about when I look back at where we started. There were years where Kristen and I were sleeping on the warehouse floor just trying to make it work. Now we’ve got an incredible team and an amazing community supporting what we do. The anniversary sale is running right now with a 15% discount stacked on top of volume discounts, and the response has been huge. Several flavors have already sold out and the team has been packing orders nonstop. None of that happens without the community, and I’m incredibly grateful for the support. FEB 27

The Work Podcast Episode 47 - Digital Detox

In this episode, Greg and I covered everything from LASIK stories and gym culture to CGMs and deloads, but the real theme was intentional living. We both did an unplanned digital detox over the weekend — no social media, no constant email checking, no reacting to every notification. And nothing broke. Sales still came in. Emails could wait. What we gained instead was presence — with family, with training, with real life. Phones have become the adult pacifier. Scrolling doesn’t solve anxiety, boredom, or stress — it just numbs it. Time is the only non-renewable resource we have. If you’re physically present but mentally tethered to your device, you’re absent. So I’m doubling down on boundaries: batching emails, no reactive mornings, fewer distractions, more depth. When you remove noise, you amplify what actually matters. We also talked training — a strategic deload using machines to reduce CNS fatigue while keeping intensity high — and my current CGM experiment. Heavy training spikes glucose slightly. OMAD with high fat? Flat line. Data reinforces the philosophy: adequate fat stabilizes the response. And no, I didn’t promote high fat to sell Keto Bricks — I built Keto Brick because I needed it first. Which is fitting, because March marks eight years since launch. Eight years of refining, leveling up, and doing the work. Key Takeaways: Digital detox creates clarity and presence. Most “urgent” communication isn’t actually urgent. Boundaries protect your time and energy. Strategic deloads can increase long-term performance. High-fat OMAD keeps glucose remarkably stable (for me). Standards matter in natural bodybuilding — pro cards should be earned. Talk is cheap. Execution wins. Next episode we’ll be reporting back post–Tough Mudder — cold, muddy, and better for it.
