To the surprise (if not outright shock) of many, Sean Payton announced at the NFL Scouting Combine back in February that he was giving up offensive play-calling duties to new OC Davis Webb, who is viewed as a fast rising star in NFL coaching circles. But as you know in the NFL, when perception meets reality in the NFL, the latter more often than not makes the former look foolish. As promising as Davis Webb may be, he has no previous play-calling experience whatsoever, and one of your colleagues on the Broncos beat, Troy Renck of the Denver Post, is enormously skeptical this move will pay off. He believes that, barring say a top-10 offensive season from start to finish, that it's a matter of WHEN (not IF) Sean Payton yanks back play-calling responsibilities.
